Tire Pressure Measurement Inoperative

The TPMS system on my 2011 ML350 has worked great. I had a wheel transmitter go bad and I changed all 4 because they were about 7 years old. Those worked for awhile then 1 went bad and one rear tire quit transmitting. So, I recently changed the 1 bad valve stem transmitter when I got new tires on the back. Since then the entire system has gone down. I was getting 3 tires with 1 inop. Now, after changing the bad one out - the entire system quit. When I changed them all a couple years ago, the system picked up the new sensors automatically no problem.

Any idea why 1 new one would shut the system down?

In addition, I've changed out the Command Unit with an AVINUSA 9" display so some of the steering wheel controls may not work the same as with the Command Unit. When I put the key in the second position, bring up the TPMS on the dash, reset - noting changes to the message that the system is inoperative. When I press the + button the volume on the head unit goes up, but nothing changes in the dash readout.

Can a shop read the transmitters and/or reset the system without the OEM Command Unit?

First check both contacts on fuse #39 in the cargo area fuse box with the key on.

I doubt you can reset the TPM without the steering wheel buttons working.

Find a tire shop and ask them to reset the system. They will have a generic scanner to do so.

Over the past few months my TPM system has worked off and on. It seemingly works when it wants with all 4 wheels showing the correct pressure. It will work for a few days then it will quit and I will get the small yellow tire profile in the left gauge along with a message up front that the system has failed. A day or more later it will work again. Right now it's not working.

It seems to me that the wheel sensors are working fine as all 4 are sending a signal. When the system fails, all 4 wheels are missing. This seems to indicate a module failure to my untrained mind. According to the wiring schematics matching my VIN number the module is in the rear cargo area. My question is this:

Where in the rear cargo area?

I took off the panel on the right side and did not see anything matching what I believe the module looks like. Can someone tell me where the module is located? I can go about replacing it if I can find it.

I found this on the schematic: "TPM CONTROL MODULE (ML-CLASS: RIGHT SIDE OF CARGO AREA) "
Then the brown wire goes to this: "(BEHIND TRIM, LEFT REAR OF CARGO AREA)" "CIRCUIT 31 LEFT WHEELHOUSE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT VOLTAGE DISTRIBUTOR CONNECTOR"

Thank you.

Here is the location. Also understand that there is an antenna that might be the problem.

Thank you. This puts an entirely new light on the subject. Is it possible to remove the warning device from the system thru the computer system? First car I've owned where I want it dumber. 😬

Possibly, but it would have to be done with M/B scanner.

The tire pressure Warning system is on your vehicle because it is federally mandated. There won’t be procedures for disabling it.

I did not know, thank you. I Googled it after your post. I’m going to have to fix this. Well, with any luck it’s only one component.

Thank you for all the feedback.
