ML320CDI 2008 oil leaking with pics.

Here are some pics which I took a couple of days ago about my ML320CDI 2008 oil leaking. I found the oil comes from the driver side, the bottom back position, I can see the oil pod at the garage floor everyday,

Indy said it is the oil cooler and if sure, a 13 hours big job will be raised. I want to know if anyone knows this issue more who can help with this diagnosis.

Thanks,

Paul

Purchase two oil seals from dealer, part 019 997 58 45.

Remove bolt and pull out nipple, have small catch pan ready. Replace seals and tighten bolt to Nm 12=8.9 ft. lbs.

There is one drain hole on the driver side and if the oil cooler leaks for sure is coming from the driver side drain hole of the V. Had a leak om my w164 320 cdi coming from the passenger side had the engine washed and there have been no leaks ever since. The oil was accumulated from a red turbo seal installed not correctly by the mechanic and as the time passed found its way to the buttom. First thing have the engine washed and observe is the leak continues. Also check the red turbo seal if it is tight. In case the oil leak continues the oil cooler seals are a known problem on the om642 engine so it might be time to replace those.

Since your car is 2008 you probably have old rubber (orange) oil cooler seals. New style is made from viton and has purple color. It is not difficult, but time consuming job. 13 hours is fair if it include cleaning of intake manifold.

Since that leaked fluid is Red, it's transmission fluid - likely leaking from where the cooler return line goes into the transmission.
It takes a new o-ring on reassembly.

I thought he was referring to that black engine oil

W164 oil cooler leak

I have a 2008 ML320CDI W164 with an oil cooler leak, now after looking at the oil cooler on pictures n such, has any ever thought of using the black oil gasket maker around the oil cooler seals before putting the cooler back on the engine? I want to find out if they have, will this permanently fix the oilcooler from leaking oil. My seals were replaced at 45k miles from the dealership, now at 125k miles they are leaking again. I want to permanently fix this issue on my truck.

I think the above is about a transmission oil cooler leak - not engine oil cooler

are you sure it is engine oil cooler - thought they brought out different seals that fixed it - is it intake oil near from turbo inlet (blowby from pcv) - on my cars it comes down the back of the vee and over bellhousing
