2008 ML350 Audio Volume Knob

The volume knob is no longer working. The volume button on the steering wheel has to be pushed to change volume. Can this be repaired or I just have to live with this nuisance.
Your insights will be appreciated.

Purchase the button from M/B, then replace it.

Thanks Major. My bad not to have been clear. This button works fine. The volume control knob on the radio, that I called knob, is not working. It turns on & off but the volume control component of it doesn't work at all.
Sorry for this.
Thanks

No such luck. The fuse is intact. It controls Audio, right? It has to be more complex!!
Thanks again.

Hi Major,
Could it possibly be the amplifier under the driver's seat, as one video suggested? To me, as the volume buttons on the steering wheel are functioning properly, it could not be the amplifier.

I had this 06 ML. If I disconnect battery and reconnect it worked for a month or 2 then would do it again. Could not change stations either except with steering wheel buttons

. Weirdly I swapped head unit into another car 08GL and worked fine. Ended putting it back into original car but swapped the phone puck with other car. Everything works now. doesn’t seem logical to be tied up with puck but was in my case

Head unit is probably what you call radio

Thanks. I don't see myself doing that.
As for the phone puck, it's apparently for bluetooth capability only. As you say, it's indeed weird for it to have anything to do volume.

Do other controls on radio work? Have you tried disconnect battery for a minute?

Everything else works perfectly. The battery was disconnected. The phone puck was disconnected.
I did a scan and this is what I got, I can't make any sense out it. Except this issue, I don't have any other problem at all. This car has been really good over the years. I don't know why I get so many fault codes.

Fault Codes(1):AGW-Audio gateway (MOST network management, diagnosis gateway, radio tuner)
D103 MOST component at position 3 reports open ring. Stored
Fault Codes(6):SDAR-Satellite radio

The radio changed in 08 for facelift. Mine are up to early 08. It might be worthwhile buying a used radio (of same type) as Lots of people upgrade and sell the original cheap. Simple to change. Youtubes on it. Not sure if later one can be changed without coding. Early one just needs car to have had same options. Camera etc.

not sure how they work on the ML but if its a potentiometer based for example then they can wear out over time or get crap on the track that stops them working properly, not sure how accessible it would be to clean, if you can access it maybe worth a shot as could be a quick fix. if not I think you may be looking for a replacement

I had same problem this week. Easy fix, just pull the volume control knob outwards carefully , comes of quite easy. Consists of 2 main parts with a third fixed in second part, easy to put back too. Just clean inside where it came out with soft cloth and spray with electronic cleaner. Al clean and so spray removed parts. Push back and in and works 100% again!

2009 ML350 4matic
Great info on this Spyker. I've noticed recently that the volume control knob on my 2009 ML350 4matic has begun to not change the volume as efficiently as in the past. I have to "slowly" turn it to affect the volume but the button on the steering wheel works just fine. When I next get a moment, I'll try your fix and report back. Thanks!
