Hydraulic Fluid LEAK in Steering rack W164

Hi all,

I have an ml280cdi and it has a leak right through the axis that comes out vertically from a cylinder coupled to the steering rack (I think it's called distributor head). See A in picture

When removing the bar, I removed a plastic cap that the head carries, and you can see perfectly how liquid oozes between the shaft and the body of the part. I include a picture with the leak.

I've looked at the WIS, but I'm a bit lost. It says how to remove the complete "distributor head" from the steering rack, but I don't see anything about disassembling the distributor head to change a seal -which I imagine will go on the top of the head- where the shaft attaches to the steering rod that goes to the steering wheel.

Does any one know's how to repair this leak without purchasing a new "distributor head - part B" ?

Any help???
It will be appreciated!

I contacted a M/B mechanic friend and he said that there is no repair for this leak problem, and you must buy a new or used rack and pinion.

Bad news!!!! Also the rack? this is a hard and complicated labor issue. Front axis must be removed.
I'm going to try Xenum XP100. It says that stops leaks in steering parts.

I had a leak from there as well. Replaced the rack as an acquaintance put in standard power steering leak fix and some of the o rings turned so soft they actually smeared and dropped oil catastrophically. Just make sure the stop leak is compatible with the synthetic fluid and green o rings.

I think Ebay usa had the seal listed. Should be replaceable.

I have seen the following product from Lucas Oil called "POWER STEERING STOP LEAK" They say if you don't solve the leak they will refund your money. They must be very sure it works or they won't advertise this also in the bottle label.

I think I'm going to test this. The problem is already there, so I won't loose too much.
