Store codes 0016/0017 and 0722
I picked up a 2009 ML350 a few months ago, that had been sitting for a number of years….and it took a good deal of work to get it running/driving again. I finally got to take it on its maiden voyage today (about 40miles round trip). Before then I was just doing 2-3 mile trips around the garage, before the trip I had no current or stored codes. After I got back from the trip, I didn’t have a check engine light or limp mode from the transmission but decided to scan the car just in case. I got a p0016/17 code as stored and a p0722 as stored.
Here are my questions:
P0016/17 - The engine range is a good deal past the cutoff for the balance shaft issue. I had the code when I first got the engine running and chocked it up to old magnets or failing cps sensors. I changed both magnets and sensors on Bank 1 just in case. I don’t have a check engine light and the engine runs smoothly. Should I just presume this is a one-off since it hasn’t been driven in 2.5 years and the cam adjusters may have been sticky and will hopefully loosen up after some more driving?
P0722 - Transmission is shifting smooth and no issues, no limp mode. I have a couple of ESB codes (left rear wheel speed sensor mostly). Chances these two are correlated?
As always, thanks for any help!
0722 is speed sensor which is usually a failed conductor plate on the valve body.
I doubt the wheel sensor codes are correlated to the 0722 code.
Do a fluid & filter change every 30K miles. The 722.9 is a fine transmission, but thanks to MB, this maintenance is often neglected.

I did find some info on Corcuit Board medics when looking for conductor repair costs that said that wheel speed sensors can trigger false conductor sensor codes so I’m replacing that today.
