Car and Driver - NEW 2012 ML REVIEW!

they are down-behind the rear bumper...yes they are in hidden position...they are just 2 little pipe on the side, you can see 1 of them in one photo of the white ml..

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some love and some don't.
AMG will be about the same with added spoilers and flares. 4.6 litre TT at about 450-500 HP is likely with better fuel mileage than the 55/63 models for sure.
The 2012 has full fledged morphed into a CUV vehicle and is slowly losing any hint of being a truck.
I do LIKE the new power output of the BlueTec though. Its going to be a monster with a tune.

Development costs were probably amortized along with that of the Jeep and Dodge to increase margins. Hence, there is a slight hint of the Cherokee/Durango in the new ML's profile.
It's interesting that in this photo the headlights have slight Audi Q5 look. Perhaps this is the sport version (?). http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2011/06...hotos-and.html

Almost all the post on that car and driver website are negative....I'm not a big fan of the exterior but I do like how the NAV is placed higher on the dash.
But then again I did just buy a 2011 ? or

Just saw another photo on R&T.com and the front of the ML (with the Q5-like headlamps) says "ML 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC". So I guess the dage on its side flanks does say BlueEfficiency.
Interesting how that variant has the eyeliner type accent lights.

These must be the headlights that were reportedly going to be delayed till 2012? I like them. But then again i am an audi guy. I hope them make them available soon since were getting it as soon as it launches. But may delay slightly if not available yet.

Gotta say I am a little disappointed. While the interior is a vast improvement, the outside is a bit ugly.
-gone is the slightly bulged fenders which gave it a sportier look
-hood seems like a slab added as afterthought when looked at from side
-back is more like X5
-taillights are too narrow, like the E class which I don't care for really
-front shape is not nicer than old except for led's and has the chopped/snub nose look they arevrolling out on all cars now. Looks great on SL and CLS but not on SUV
Overall the car reminds me of a MDX,Kia,E class mix.
Time to decide. I'd like to see in person but other than the interior I like the old model better. Probably can snag a great deal in diesel lease.
Thoughts?

I disagree with most of you above... To my taste, previous 2011 ML looked too cute with a weak front end. 2012 front end is more massive and looks more like an SUV for a man...
I don't see any ressemblence with MDX and KIA. These SUVs look like round soap in the shower with no distinct lines, made of mix of plastic.
Interior of new 2012 ML is friendly to use (unlike 2011) and almost perfect. New 2012 ML will be one of the hottest best sellers, right from the start. Overall is outstanding upright design. The only part I'm not crazy about is rear lights. They don't have MB classy look.
I extended my lease on my E, in order to get 2012 model, but still debating between ML and E...

Ive always felt that the std 164 hood was lame and wished MB would make the Hybrid hood the std hood. The 166 hood has a bit more to it than the std 164 hood.

2008 Ml 350, 2000 Ml 430
this is disgusting i do not understand why they must change designs and looks that make a Mercedes unique. ML was 100% percent unique and can spot from miles way with the lights and body this 2012 looks like every other SUV out there (Q5 AUDI" Toureg" VW) same thing with the E class a car with style and being distinguishable that now looks like a Hyundai genesis which is half the price.

What most of you may not realize is the 166 body is wider than the 164. To see the two from the rear side by side its a huge difference.

I really like this new ML. It looks big, expensive and has presence. Like a RR, which is very good.

Interior looks great, exterior repulsive.
Hopefully they can tweak it down the road.
Hoping for good deals on a diesel lease if the beast looks better in person than in pics, but not holding me breath...

All MY11 MLs for Canada after October 1st decade production got this (after considerable fighting/begging) - I'm sure you saw a few of them go rolling by
