Diesel Hesitation and Bucking

My ML with about 1k on it started bucking and hesitating during light acceleration. When first driven. Doesn't matter if its warmed up or not. After about a minute it goes away.

Anyone else having a similar problem? BTW, it goes to the dealer next week.

I get a slight hesitation during light acceleration from rest or crawl, but not always. I just got the car back from the dealer.

This is my first diesel, so I thought maybe this how diesels drive?

But I don't rememer this happening in the rental diesel cars (typcially midsizes and compacts) I drive in Europe.

This is NOT typical of diesels. I'll be curious as to what the dealer finds and does to repair this issue.

The same thing happens with mine, exactly as you've described it.Took it to the dealer and was told nothing was wrong.I then insisted that the service manager come for a ride with me at which time it bucked only a little...not nearly as much as it usually does (figures, doesn't it!).I was told that it was probably due to my failure to use the "sport" transmission setting, thus denying the car the opportunity to "learn" first gear (I always use "economy").That sounded pretty lame but didn't persure it.

Actually, I just got the ML back from the dealer a couple of days ago after the dealer fixed the water in the fuel line problem (please see my other thread).

I have not driven the car much, so far only 120 miles, plus another 100 by the dealer + pre delivery.

I will leave it until the first couple of thousand miles. So far, the slight hesitation does not really bother me, as it is occasional - maybe residual issues from the water?

But I will put on at least another 100 miles at least this weekend.

Other than this, pretty happy with the car so far.

I have experienced weird acceleration response timing with the 4MATIC. Not sure if this is related.

It could be if its transmission related since I think they both use the same transmission.

This is a known issue for the 2012 Bluetecs. Mine has it bad when it's cold. Per the factory service and parts manager, the fix for this issue will be ready in 3-4 weeks. It will be a software update.

Could you PM me with details when yours is fixed. My service dept didn't have the first clue about the situation...but that was four months ago (maybe the fix was arrived at later).

Thanks much!

Mine is at the dealer right now and they claim that they have spoke to MB and there is no open case on this issue. I say BS!

Unless my dealer was not being truthful to me, I believe that not only the service department but also dealership management worked very close with mbusa to try and get the issue resolved. Keep me in the loop as to what additional information your dealer provides you.

Mine never got fixed. They were working on it for over a month. Then, a check engine light came on that they could not get off. My car was in the shop since November 30th. My replacement will be here on Saturday. I got another BlueTec because I really love the diesel. The first bit of info I got while my car was in for repair was that there is a software issue and there is no estimate for when that will be available. Early this week, the GM told me they got an update from MBUSA and that the fix will be ready in 3-4 weeks.

Thanks! I heard from a motorhead that Mercedes now uses a single Fiberoptic connection between the front and the back of the vehicle that controls everything from wheelspin sensor to door locks to tail lights.

From what I understood there is computer in the front that talks to the computer in the back via fiber optic and that eliminates a lot of wiring. This design seems to be "buggy" as hell.

IDK?> the truth behind this... any thoughts.

Fiber optic cable is more reliable than copper. Its not effected by the same things copper is like water, EMF, noise etc. I can't speak for the items on either end of the fiber.

As Scotty from Star Trek would say "the more they complicate the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain".

I don't know what causes the bucking, but take someone for a ride in your new 60k + Mercedes SUV when its cold and let the car go wild and look at their face.

Nothing yet. I am on my second 2012 Bluetec, the first one was replaced. They both hesitate and buck like crazy when they are cold. I talked to a higher up at MBUSA and he was certain that it would be the first 10 days of February, but that has come and gone. It was the reason I was willing to get into another Bluetec since the supposed fix was coming so soon. I have his contact info and if there is no fix by the end of this week, I am going to be giving him a call. I will update as soon as I hear something.

Brought my ml350 into service last week. Same problem as described above plus the adblue countdown started even though the tank was full. Mb did a software update and both the adblue level problem and the engine buckling are fixed.
