W166 WINDSHIELD PRONE TO CRACK (per safelight)

We Cracked our front windshield! Opaa!

The windshield costs $1075 MBUSA
The "KIT" costs $275 MBUS
Labor is not determined yet, but expected to be $750 SAFELITE
========
Makes for a $2000 rock

We were lucky <6" crack which was on the passenger side FAR lateral. 2 drill holes and some epoxy and its going to hold for now.

I should have bought the $500 windshield insurance from MB (EDIT)! (which is my ins. deductible)

The rep (Marco) at safelite informed us that he has already done 5 of the 2012 ML's for cracks. MB uses a sandwiched glass that is ULTRA clear (thus more hard and thus more brittle). His gestalt tells him that this is a mistake on the MB side given the # of windshields he has repaired/replaced already.

For what it's worth:
--------------->MINUTE 1:18 Shows offset frontal windshield crack
------------------->MINUTE 2:06 Shows centered frontal impact windshield help up well

From the dealer? If it's for accidental damage it would be insurance not a warranty. Might get the same for less by going with a low deductible on your insurances comp portion.

My a6 just got a crack from a large chunk of tire. Luckily my comprehensive was only $50 and only raised my premium a couple bucks per year. Everyone should make sure to have a low deductible on comprehensive coverage.

Here in Florida windshields are covered 100% by insurance with no deductible. It part of the my fault insurance.

Makes no sense. Low Deductible means higher premiums every month. The concept is you only pay the higher deductible if you need to. Most won't and will save every month. Even if you have to pay the deductible for a repair, you'll probably break even or save money in the long run with a Higher Deductible Policy.

True, but in FL, surprisingly they don't cover any side glass without adding an additional very expensive coverage for that side glass... only the front & rear "windshield" glass is covered.

When we lived on Long Island all glass was covered under comprehensive each claim had a $50.00 deductible.

I do not think that in an entire lifetime of driving, I have never had any side glass broken. I will take that zero deductible front glass anytime.

We haven't had any issues with our ML windshield but I have had 3 replacement windshields on my 2011 e550. All OEM Sekurit glass - but wow does it chip / crack easily. I just washed this car this morning and see that the windshield is getting pretty pitted again. Nuts in the bright morning sun...looks like a hundred tiny crystal ***** glimmering.

Both of my Mercedes vehicles have been noticeably more prone to chipping & pitting than my previous 3 vehicles (all Lexus). Same roads & driving style. It's disappointing.
