I was suprised when i learnt that they dont sell the AMG Sport pack or 21's for the 350's in the US. Seeing as:-
a) they are built there
b) probably one of the biggest (if not the biggest) markets for this type of SUV
Obviously something to do with the MBUSA marketing policy. Its a real shame as its the best looking version (in my humble opinion). Think you should lobby the White House as this is a complete injustice to the US people and i'm sure you could quote many breaches of the Fair Trades Act!!!

Basic ML 350BT in Australia is approx 114k USD (using todays forex and MB list price and ignoring any dealer discounts). The basic spec is higher than that in US/Europe eg:-
- COMAND APS (including full Media interface and 10GB HDD)
- Parktronic and Active Parking Assist
- Mirror Package (powered and auto dimming)
- Elec/Memory Package for seats/steering column/mirrors etc
- Ambient Lighting
- Reversing Camara
- Leather Interior
- Artico Leather dashboard
- Brushed aluminium running boards
- Intelligent Light Package
- Driving Assistance Package PLUS (Distronic PLUS, Brake Assist PLUS, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist etc)
I've added a link to the MB Australia website if you are interested:
http://www2.mercedes-benz.com.au/con.../standard.html
However that doesnt equate to the difference in the price tag. The difference is made up of a number of factors including a Government introduced Luxury Car Tax, Stamp Duty and the volume of sales in Australia compared to US is far lower for MB providing the same level of service and facilities (i.e higher costs/overheads - or so they say!!).
If you add Convenience Pack (keyless Go, Sunroof, electric tailgate) and AMG Sport pack (AMG exterior styling, perforated discs, AIRMATIC suspension and adaptive damping, 21" alloys, privicy glass) and HK sound, the delaler list price goes up to nearly $130k USD.
Now, if you want a ML63 AMG, try $200K USD!!!

You guys have it easy!! lol

What was the price of MB (or any other imported cars) like when 1Aus$=60 US cents?
I came to Australia in 2009 so I don't know what the price was like before that... I know that it is roughly 1 Aus$=1 US$ now but before 2008 economic crisis 1Aus$=around US 60cents and that's roughly the price we are paying in Australia if we compare it to US price. (and I guess it's similar to Euro as well.)
If the price is same then does that mean car importers are making excessive profit at this stage without adjusting the price according to the new currency rate?
I understand that the currency rate is not the only factor contributing to the car price here but surely the price should drop if Aus $ is so strong now. Also if Aus $ goes back to say 1 Aus $ = 60 US cents, does that mean our car prices will be more expensive than what it is now?
