2013 ML350 Wiring Harness Recall?

Anyone heard anything about a recall on the 2013 ML350 for the airbag wiring harness?

We just bought a brand new one and before we could drive it off the lot the check engine light came on and they told us it was for a recall on a wiring harness that controls the airbags (why would the check engine light come on for a recall? Can they do over the air updates or something?).

We originally thought it was going to a couple days to get a new one, but 10 days later mercedes apparently has still not shipped out the part and the dealer will not let us take delivery of the ML350. We are driving one of the two cars we traded in currently with dealer plates on it since technically we already sold it to the dealer.

This has been extremely frustrating for us since of the two cars we traded in, they had us take the smaller Mazda 3 to drive instead of the Explorer which she preferred to drive, not to mention we cannot fit our dogs in to the Mazda 3 and so have not been able to take them anywhere. And I leave the country for 5 months next week and she is having anxiety about not having the car before I leave and having to handle it herself.

To top off the frustration we cannot find any information on this recall anywhere.

Can they give you another vehicle or was your custom ordered?
Get everything in writing.
FYI, I haven't heard anything on an airbag recall.

Haven't heard about any of that. I did have a CEL turn on one morning but turned off by lunch. I called mbrace and they thought it may be air in the gas tank. That was my first thought but I didn't think that was the culprit and mbrace seemed to try and BS me. CEL has never come back.

1. Tell the dealer that you need a larger vehicle.
2. Tell the dealer that you do not want to drive your old car.

I understand why the wifey might get a bit anxious about it but in reality it isn't a big deal. Of all the things in life to be frustrated and anxious about, this is low on the scale.

Did you call MBUSA and ask for a superior until you received an answer?

I would not accept that vehicle. A CEL before you drive it off the lot doesn't sit well.

Dealer has agreed to get us a GLK as the loaner and drive it down tomorrow (dealer is 2.5 hours away). Originally we took the Mazda3 as the loaner because it was the day before we left for Mexico and we were told it would be delivered the day we got back, so we figured it didn't matter.

Another frustrating part is that I bought a $1000 custom dog crate from transk9usa to be put in the back of the car. Its getting delivered Thursday and storing it until the car arrives is awkward since I live in a condo. The crate won't fit in a GLK since it is custom sized for the ML.

Apparently the recall is legit but the local dealer has the part in stock so I am trying to get my dealer to buy it from them to install. I am a little annoyed I was the one who found out that another dealer had the part, I feel like the dealer should have scoured the state for it after finding out it was on back order.

They should be able to have the part transferred. Thank the lazy parts department. Keep pressing the dealer but just try be nice... nice seems to go a long way.

I would have a problem accepting it also.

Although many of us, me included have taken a vehicle in for a recall repair this situation just doesn't sit well with me either.

Just my two cents.

Apparently another parts guy is telling us they have not even made the new wire housing yet and the plant is just starting to make plans in Mexico. We said screw waiting forever and are getting a new Range Rover Sport instead. Hadn't driven the Sport before, can't say I am disappointed with the change though

I'm glad that MB didn't give you a problem backing out of the deal. I mean they shouldn't have because of the issue with the ML but you never know.

Good luck with the Range Rover.
