2014 ML350 maintenance/warranty, am I being cheated?

Hi

Thank you very much for your guys' help, I am ready to pick up my new 2014 ML350 next Tuesday.

However, there is an issue concerns me, I was pushed to buy the 5 years prepaid maintenance for about $2100 (I just found out on MBUSA, it just costs $1679) and 7 years extended warranty for $2800 --- the salesman just blablabla so many things and I was trapped.

Is there any solution for this issue? I have not picked up my car yet.

Thank you very much in advance.

Don't buy things you are not comfortable buying. All that stuff can be bought on it's own later. They can't make you buy the an extended warranty or prepaid Maintenance. After you buy the car you can shop around to who you want servicing your car and can buy an extended warranty at a later date if you choose too.

My dealer tried the same thing on the prepaid service. I called him on it and he met the MBUSA price. However, it aggravated me to the point that I bought the extended warranty elsewhere. In my case, I caught it while we were negotiating, so it did not effect any other aspect of the deal (monthly payments for example).

How many miles does your 7 year warranty cover, and is it the MBUSA ELW warranty? MB's 7 year warranty comes in 75k/100k/125k versions.

These two people participate in the forum and sell the MBUSA ELW warranties for significantly discounted prices. They should be able to tell you pretty specifically how good a deal you could get from them:

Erin Mahre of MB Santa Rosa, direct:707-521-3996, tel:707-542-4811, erin@smotherseuropean.com.

I don't know if you've already completed your contract/signed it/etc. Also don't know how the prices of the warranty and service contract may have effected the other aspects of your contract (purchase price/trade in/etc)....

Generally, you can cancel the prepaid service and maintenance before the first service and the MB ELW anytime before the initial warranty expires and get your money back (not sure of all the details on that). You can also buy the maintenance and warranty elsewhere. I'm pretty sure the maintenance can be purchased up to the point of the first maintenance service, and the warranty can be purchased anytime before the initial factory warranty has expired (however it is 15% more after the first 30 days from purchase)

But that could be a bit of a hassle, and you may want those things.

If it was my car/deal, I'd call either Erin or Travis, and see what they can do. Then I'd call the dealer and tell him that you realized he charged you the wrong price for the prepaid maintenance and (maybe) the warranty and see whether he is willing to meet the prices you want.

If not, you can ask him to take them out of the deal and get them from one of the other two.

However it works out. Congrats on your new ML, you're going to really enjoy the vehicle

This is surely I will do after I pick up my car and I will send their general manager an email to complain this and get all things cancelled.

Thank you very much for your information

I would deal with it before you take delivery of the car.

Meaning, either re-contract for those two items at the price you want/are comfortable with, or re-do the contract without them.

It will probably be easier to deal with if you do it before the dealer you are currently working with registers anything with MB. That way you don't have to cancel anything.

As I know they will start preparing the documents/registration and such on the coming Monday, I think I will cancel them all and re-do the contract --- to be honest, it is very hard for me to trust that one guy anymore.

You can cancel the warranty, but I think the prepaid maintenance is not refundable.

Now that you mention it, I think you may be right about the prepaid maintenance. I was thinking that you could buy it up until the first service was due.

More reason to deal with it before taking the car.

A gaggle of MB's
Let me clear something up here - 30K prepaid maintenance is the best "bang" - maximum savings - after 30K you can opt for another 30K.

Yes - prepaid maintenance can be purchased all the way up to checking-in/opening a 10K service ticket - if the ticket gets opened, it either gets opened as prepaid or customer pay - no way to change back.

Prepaid maintenance is not refundable.

Extended new car warranty costs the dealer if purchased after 30 days from date of sale - retail goes up 10% - under MBFS the extended warranty can be added to the contract as a 0% interest amoritized item ontop of the MBFS vehicle contract.

If leasing - both prepaid maintenance and ELW are considered as depreciation items - meaning if your residual is 55% - you only pay 45% of the actual cost of the added items - although that paid amount is subject to money-factor/interest.

Individual states determine if prepaid maintenance or ELW are taxable - varies by state.

Keep the beat !

The prepaid maintenance can't be cancelled or transferred. I just used one service on my 12 ML350 and was due for the second one last week. I asked if I could transfer it to my 14 ML BT and they said they couldn't.
