A gaggle of MB's
If you have been happy with factory pad - then Jurid which is OEM for the W166 pads - make sure you get/use MB brake "goo"..

Thanks fabbrisd1! I ended up ordering a set of Akebono EURO Ultra Premiums from pelicanparts. The oems were nice but too pricey.

Let us know how the Akebono pads work out. I have them on my E430 and C280. I did the C280 first and had a problem with squealing. I had used the old rotors, which were in spec. I changed the rotors and the noise went away. On the E430 I installed the Akebonos with new rotors and they work great. I was going to install them on my new ML350 when I took delivery, but didn't get around to it, so the rotors have been running with stock pads for a while now.

Equivalent to CRC "Disc Brake Quiet"
It damps the pad to caliper joint to eliminate vibrations and squeal.

Sorry "mate" - MB brake goo goes on the edges of the backing plate to eliminate harmonic backing plate brake chatter... you might try it, frankly I'm surprised you haven't if you own a 09 CDI.. farthing shore and all that...

2012 ML350
I'd like to piggyback on this thread, if I may. I'm also in need of new brake pads for my 2012 ML350 Bluetec. I'm sure I need REAR brake pads. I can't find the rear pads from the seemingly popular Akebono brand.

I found Textar brand rear pads on pelican parts dot com (the website says they are OE pads for Porsche and BMW but the single reviewer has used them on his 2013 ML350 - so I'm not sure if I should rely on the word of a single reviewer). Amazon only has the Raybestos brand, and RockAuto has the Ferodo pads, both of which are priced "too cheap" and therefore I'm hesitant in buying them. Btw, the genuine MB rear pads are priced at $186 on RockAuto.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as to where I can find decent REAR pads for the 2012 ML350 Bluetec.

Thanks.

Hey guys,

I am getting ready to do the brakes on my W166 ML350 and I researched the grease recommended by MB.

The "goo" you guys are referring to is "MB Plastilube P/N: 0029893751" and is applied to the contact surfaces of the brake carrier where the pads make contact with the carrier. I found this on Pelican Parts searching for part number "83-23-0-305-690-M4" which is a Porsche part number. They use the same stuff Or you could just stop by your local Porsche dealership.

This is from MBWIS showing where to apply the Plastilube:

According to MBWIS when installing the rotors (Disk), you should apply "BR00.45-Z-1005-06A Paste, hot lubrication 1 kg, DB supply specification 6879.20 P/N: 0009897651"

Doing some further research I discovered that this is actually "Castrol Optimol Paste TA" which is very expensive at the MB Dealership for some stupid reason but again I found it under a Porsche P/N:"00004302000". Porsche actually calls it "Optimoly Mounting Paste". I also found this on Pelican parts but I actually picked it up at the Porsche Dealership here locally.

MBWIS instructions are: "Lightly grease seat of brake disk" which is the contact surface of the Disk and Hub.

If you guys need any more information about this please let me know
