GLE 350 4matic, 5k miles, slow shifting?

So, I just hit 5k miles on my GLE 350 and i've noticed that there is some delay in shifting in comfort mode (my normal driving mode). I know the transmission is supposed to be adaptive but it definitely does not feel as snappy as when I first got it. I'm sure some of that is weather related but even with the engine warmed it feels a bit sluggish. Anyone experience this with other mb or their gle/ml? Fix? And no, it is not because it is in comfort mode. I know the transmission is designed to be more aggressive in comfort to achieve better MPG.

If you use another mode are you happy with the shifting? You might not find a huge difference in fuel economy.

As you pointed out, the ECU learns and adapts to your driving style, so if you've been consistently gentle on the accelerator it will shift slower. Have you tried an ECU reset to clear the learned behaviour and reset it back to the factory shift and throttle response modes?

How do I go about resetting it? I do believe that is the cause as I drive half local and half highway.

Try the old, easier way first - although I haven't tried it on a W166 so I am not sure if it will still work:

1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

If you have KEYLESS-GO, remove the button and perform the above with the key.

A FULL reset involves disconnecting the battery but then you need to recalibrate your windows and sunroof, so I'd try the simple method first.

Awesome. Thanks! I do have keyless go so I'll have to see how to remove it. I don't mind disconnecting the battery if that's means everything will reset. My only fear is the radio code so I'll have to find that first.

Anytime - and please let us know if the "gas pedal" method works on the W166. Re Keyless Go button - just grab it around the edge and pull it straight out. The key fob tip then fits in the hole where the button goes and operates like any other ignition with a key (turns though positions 0/1/2/Start). If the battery in the key fob ever completely dies, it's the only way you can start the car (there's an optocoupler unit in the tip).

Disconnecting the battery definitley does the trick, but you will have to recalibrate your windows and sunroof among other things. I don't think the radio will ask for a code - IIRC if you have the COMAND system w/ NAV the serial of the head unit is now tied to the ECU (just like a key) and gets the authorization via the CANbus network on the car.

So I just used the method above, waited 10 seconds with the gas and 3 minutes after just in case. I went for a drive and there's a pretty noticeable difference. Shifting is much smoother and effortless. It doesn't rev and stay in 3rd or 4th gear if i accelerate. Acceleration is better as well. Couldn't be happier!

Glad to hear it works on the W166 as well!

I have been having the throttle response for quite some time which feels like to too much acceleration needed from 0-30 which produces engine noise and still others are overtaking it :-( I am also going to try the ECU reset and see if that helps.
