Oil Part #, confused now. Please confirm the part #
I decided to do the oil change near the house,
and provide oil and filter to the tech.
Looked at my last oil change at the dealer to get oil part # and order it on-line.
Part # shows as
001-989-37-01-USA9 5W-30 MB229.52 BUL
Placed an order with http://www.mboemparts.com Provided VIN #.
Got a call, this oil is not for diesels and they telling me the right one is 001-989-37-01-USA6
Dig in to old receipts and found my old oil change at different dealer and part # was 001-989-37-01-USA8
So now I have three different part numbers.
Can some one tell me which is the right one for
2014 ML350BT ?
Thank you in advance.
Here is the VIN: 4JGDA2EBXEA326809
ML maintenance book recommending oil 229.51 for BT engines, but dealer used 229.52
and they don't have 229.51 in stock.
thank you for looking.
But what usa6, usa8, and usa9 at the end of the part number means? Is this something dealer specific?
They have changed specs so many times and no data or documentation released on their own oil that it's hard for a dealer to recommend anything other than what is in your manual.
Problably thank the EPA for that and their mission to force manufaturers to protect the DPF system at all cost. they forgot the rest.

Oil labeled 04/14 its 3 years old.
Please see photos.
I searched online for engine oil shelf life, no real answer. Its between 2-5 years.
Is it safe to use this 3 years old oil?
Low SAPS Long Life engine oil for diesel engines with particle filter meeting emission EU-4 -> standards.
MB 229.52
Oils meeting this specifications must have lower ash content, at least 1% better fuel economy compared to the requirements of MB 229.31 and MB 229.51 and better oxidation stability for biofuel compatibility. Can also be used where an MB 229.31 or an MB 229.51 oil is required. Just like MB 229.5 and MB 229.51 this spec requires a long life oil.
