How many miles / years do you expect from your ML?
Hi All,
Just wondering what is your expectations?
Personally, I have 2014 blutec with 73K on it.
I hope to get it going up to 100-120K.

When I bought our 2013 late last year with 12k miles, I figured we'd be set forever. Hey, it's a Mercedes diesel. Can't go wrong....
After reading some of the Bluetec horror stories on this site, I'm not that sure anymore. But I'm taking precautions. Replacing oil every 3-5k miles after running engine flush just before. Will be running motorcycle synthetic oil this spring for the summer (damn, that *****'s expensive @ $17 CAN/quart), topping off the DEF tank during the winter months, keeping my air-inlet screens clear etc.
As well, as was previously pointed out, we usually read about the horror stories on these sites. I'd guess that for every person who has issues, there are probably 500 who don't have any. So I'll just ride the wave, stop worrying so much and enjoy

How many years / miles will make you think you did right when you bought ML?

I've got 116k miles on my $35k 2007 FJ Cruiser without one breakdown. I would reasonably expect double that due to the brand (as I believed it to be) and reputation for diesels

2014 BLUETEC with 93K. I expect at least 200K. During that time I expect to have to replace the ??? adblue heater. Already having to replace a sensor that measures diesel particulate back pressure and two of the ???? heck, I forgot. Not O2 sensors but???.......oh, nox sensors (2) back around the 70K mark if memory serves. I've eased up on driving it on long distances having aquired a couple of other cars. Mercedes dealer mechanics cost a bit too much imho. Gotta try and independent sometime to see if there's much diff in repair costs.
SUV still looks like new inside and out. Most milage was put on during long distance drives ( 1000- 1700 miles at a whack). Comfortable and quiet and TONS of torque. Too bad they won't being selling a similar SUV with a 3.0 diesel engine no 'mo. Wish the new VW Atlas had a three liter diesel, I'd buy one. Ain't never gonna happen with VW ever.

As a side note, a friend of mine just picked up a new diesel Porsche Cayenne. He tells me it was just released a month or two ago. I have not seen it yet and know nothing about it.

My next expensive car will be a Tesla or equivalent fully-electric. Especially here in Quebec, we practically give away our hydro-powered electricity. With more and more charging stations popping up across North America, it seems to be the way to go (while waving the finger at the middle-east...)

I have 2014 ML350 (gasoline engine). I purposefully bought this vehicle with naturally aspirated (no turbo and no diesel) engine. Currently at 35K miles. I expect this vehicle to go at minimum 200K miles. I change oil with Mobil1 0W-40 around every 5K miles. I buy oil at Walmart (around $25 for 5qt jug) or Costco ($26 for 6 qts. after $10 discount) and the filter for less than $20. I use the oil change time to check under vehicle for wear/tear. I am planning to change trans filter and fluid every 50K miles. I changed valve cover gaskets on my 98 ML320 couple of years ago at 170K miles. Inside the engine looked squeaky clean. I expect M276 to be much better than M112.
I have experience with M112 engine ('98 ML320), with M272 engine ('07 C280), and now M276 engine. While every engine has some inherent weak points, naturally aspirated M276 is probably one of the problem-free engines. That's just my humble opinion. Stay with the preventive maintenance and this vehicle will go forever and ever :-)

I’ve driven diesel since 1985, but after my experience with our 2012 Passat TDI SEL (sold to purchase this vehicle in 1/16): def tank heater failure (twice), diesel fuel pump failure and subsequent replacement of the whole fuel system, O2 sensor failure, other sensor failures, iffy diesel fuel quality with a picky engine, and a number of recalls (fortunately all covered under warranty); I came to believe that recent diesel emission technology implementation was not keeping pace with regulations and purchased my naturally aspirated gasser. So far I’ve put just under 23,000 uneventful miles on it. Love the quiet smoothness of the ML; and at 6’5”, the comfortable driving position and space. Now that I am retired and am not running up the miles like I used to, I am quite satisfied with the ML.
We also own a 2008 pre-DEF Sprinter (diesel) modified with a lift that we use to transport our 23 year old wheelchair-bound son. After horrendous problems with Dodge attempting to service our Sprinter, I started bringing it to the very competent folks at our local MB/Sprinter dealership. Although we pay dealer rates for service, we’ve developed a very good relationship with the SA’s and mechanics there. They know we count on it to transport our son, and they treat us (and our vehicles) well. Have not had any issues (and cannot risk any, given our son’s medical needs) with the van since we started using them and the price of service has been acceptable.
Purchased our ML at 27,000 miles with an existing factory warranty, used this forum to identify a cost effective source for an extended warranty, and I purchased a maintenance package (at a 30% discount to regular dealer servicing prices) to cover the 40 - 60k services. I may consider doing the same, if it’s available, following the 60k for future services.
I hope to keep each of our vehicles for 20 years and 200k+ miles with regular maintenance. Time will tell.

After realizing the diesels are gone, I decided to see how long mine will last. I plan on doing MB's recommended maintenance but will probably do some things earlier.

I'm with pcy on this.... oil changes, drain and replace tranny fluids at 50k, change out differential oil , filter fluids....Since i'm doing it myself and saving on labor charges, I use all mercedes oils, fluids, plugs, filters.....and I DO NOT trust Amazon or Ebay to send me Genuine MB parts....too much bootlegging' going on out there.
I'm currently serviced a 2013 ML 350 276....plugs( manifold on) , oil and filter 58K .......for a family member. Next week I'm changing the Tranny fluid....not sure , but prob change the filter and gasket...and only 6 spark plugs!
I drive a 99 ML320 174K and it purrrrrrrs! And so simple .
I have previously owned a 96 E320 that I got rid of at 265K,
86 300E that had 385K ....my kid took it to Florida and drove it till as they say "the tires fell off"....what a great car
Ya' got to get in there and keep an eye on things under the hood and the chassis and these cars will live up to their reputation and go to 400K
But get the genuine MB parts ....I've even started to use a torque wrench when specified, even on things like lug nuts on this 2013...

Just hit 120k miles on my wife's 2012 ML350 (gas). We're putting 20k miles on it a year and expect it will last her at least until 200k. No breakdowns or major repairs so far. Actually at the dealer right now because of the typical, "active blindspot inoperative" message, but even if we have to replace both rear blind spot sensors, it's still been a cheap car to maintain given the mileage we're putting on it. Last A service cost $150.

I think I'll keep it for another year and go for a G wagen.

My wifes ML is pretty simple. V6 N/A engine. No airmatic, No Active curve or self driving crap. Basically it has navigation, heated seats and heated steering wheel, AWD, Sunroof and that is really it. Its a P1 Car. I do not see why I cannot get 200k miles or 10 years min out of it. It is a 2015 (Last year of the ML)

To me theses are major repairs especially oil cooler. Not sure how many other engines has this level problems at that low mileage.
This days 150K should be a troubles free mark for mechanicals parts, electronics totally different subject.
Thank you for sharing your expectations.

C'mon Dan. 130k miles with only an oil cooler leak and the engine mounts doesn't seem too bad. And I'd bet that if he'd popped the engine cover and belly pan off his So Cal vehicle, maybe he'd have saved himself the heat-causing damage which beats on the oil cooler seals and engine mounts.
I'm curious Jim, did the engine mounts pop leaks/melt?

Peter, with all respect but to me its a big deal.
And we don't know when it actually happened.
I saw posts where oil cooler leaks at 50K, 85K to me in this class cars it's unacceptable.
Im very upset with myself because I didn't spend enough time researching BT engines.

hoping to get a lot of miles like 200k out of the ml63 bi-turbo version... so far only at 39k and only major thing was a starter a week after i bought it... started slow, new battery worked better for a week... then slow again, luckily sarasota mb and the AMG tech and I took a good look and decided starter was on the way out.... 4 hrs to pull the motor, change the starter and put it back in... guess there is a table for I think the SLS ? to drop the drivetrain... they used that .... pretty slick....

Jim, when did your items take a dump?
Dan, because I intend to follow the suggestions about frequent oil changes with a motorcycle oil, engine flush, zinc additive and losing the belly pan and engine cover in the summer, I'm anxious to see if I escape the wrath of MB engineers.
