W166 Comand 9" Android Big touchscreen W166
I am very interested in this Android Big Touchscreen for my 2015 ML350, its from a company called CKM Car design from Sweden. Has any use this in their ML before? What was your experience like with its upgrade? Any advice? It seems very impressive. Please give your opinions. Thanks
Please check out the Android Big Touchscreen for W166 at this link: Android Big Touchscreen

Well, thanks for nothing. I just dropped the hammer on a kit for our truck.
Can't we keep discussion down to stuff like what shampoo do you use to wash your car?

2 lexus, a heavily modified jeep and a cargo van for my dog,
Has anyone gone ahead with this? I'd love to see some pics...most of the pics on his website are semi-altered. If this works well i would happily get an ML vs GLE and save a ton!

I was supposed to install mine this week but I'd be screwed if the truck was out of commission for whatever reason. The wife has the other truck and she's out of town. I'll be installing it on Sunday.
However, a gentleman by the name chedman13 already did the install on his GL350 which is essentially the same vehicle.

Will do, though installing the screen is the easiest part of the job. It's the wiring etc that has me crapping my pants.
I've swapped a 502/502 Ramjet big block into an AWD minivan. C/w 4L80E, NP241 transfer case, custom Ford 9" rear. A/C, cruise, air bags....everything worked. And yet, I now fret about installing a freakin' bigger screen on my lady's truck. Getting old sucks...

Well, I spent the weekend on this project. The install itself is relatively simple, though I did have to YouTube the removal of the trim around the radio and screen.
The instructions are atrocious, seemingly written by an oriental while holding a Chinese-English dictionary in one hand whilst belting out incoherent sentences on his keyboard.
The install was about 3 hrs in total, including looking up info on the net. Quality of the screen and wiring is good, no complaints there. But those instructions....Jesus.
I even talked to a gentleman (Chedman13) who frequents the X166 site, he did the install himself. He claims he's not handy with his hands, but he's done this same swap with no issues to speak of. I'm trying to reach him again in regards to a plug configuration. My issues now are;
- I can't see/access my radio stations
- The reverse camera gives me a gray screen and a distorted clock reading
The seller emailed me to say that it's a canbus issue and that this is due to an incorrect plug configuration. I'd already dicked with the plugs, but will try again when I get home.

Ok, so a week later, driving the truck with the radio half outta the dash and having to hold it in whenever I accelerated.... Almost everything works.
There's a "hidden menu" which I had to access in order to play with the screen parameters until the camera and radio screen were back to normal. But a day before finally fixing this, I lost the screens' built-in GPS. The screen comes with it's own GPS as well as a Google screen which I believe only works thru Carplay.
I personally have no issue with the screen quality, it's fine for me. If you want to simply mirror the OEM screen, you have to hit the "FM" icon on the touchscreen and then use only the joystick for any of the OEM functions. Touch the screen once and you're back to the aftermarket screen. Which isn't an issue. Just remember that the "touchscreen" function won't work if you want to use only the OEM functions. Joystick only. Until further notice, if anyone knows how to do otherwise...
What I find utterly unacceptable is to pay $750 US for absolutely no instructions. I had to contact CKM (a 3rd-person seller) at least 10-12 times, then the manufacturer another 6-8 times. This plus using the internet to figure out what the broke-a$$ English instructions I could find were actually trying to say. This I have a real issue with.
I will say this though. Whether it was Chris at CKM or the manufacturer "Rock", response times on emails were usually around 12-18 hrs. Can't gripe about that.

Everything's buttoned up and most everything works. If you are mirroring the oem screen, the screen quality is not as good as if you use the android apps. But more than adequate for me.
