2015 ML350 How to retract parking brake for rear brake job
Can anyone suggest how to do this? The videos I have seen on You tube but nothing for the 2015 model that would work.
any help would be appreciated
1. enter the vehicle, close the door
2. press the start button once
3. ensure odometer appears in the multifunction display
4. press and hold the 2 phone icon (call accept and call end) buttons on the right button pad of the steering wheel, followed immediately by
5. pressing and holding the OK button on the left of the steering wheel, until the vehicle data menu appears

ok, Did the brakes this weekend.... easy peasy with basic tools... torx, half inch sockets and breaker bar, torque wrench, found the chart here for specs on everything, that was nice... did some dance with steering wheel buttons to get the parking brake to release. otherwise typical pad/rotor swap....
Front/Rear Pads and Rear rotors, all in about $750 in parts, all OEM parts... took under 3 hrs being very careful not to break anything and making sure it was all torqued etc... found it all on amazon and the best price too...

Remember to pull the cap off the brake fluid reservoir, passenger side front under the hood...
all 4 caliper's pistons are to be pushed back after each wheel is done, even though the rear ones look like they screw in, they dont. I tried

After each pad swap, go in and pump the brakes to seat the pads and lower the fluid in your reservoir, if ya do that after each wheel it won't overflow

had issues getting the rotors off the back... no anti-seize used so they where stuck... already had it on jack stands, hit the lug holes and around the axle with wd40 and used another jack to lift the rotor from underneath about an inch to put some pressure on it, then a couple of taps with a mallet and it came un stuck...
just remember as soon as you start tapping that rotor your at risk of warping so your committed to get it off at that point

after it was all back together, did a half dozen or so slow NEAR stops.... then another half dozen of ever increasing speed NEAR stops... and good to go

saved myself $2,250 and got to do some mechanical work which is always good on occasion...

1. I removed the Start button cover, got in the car, closed the door, and inserted the electronic key into the start button hole.
2. Turned the key ONE CLICK to ACC. The odometer showed up.
3. Quickly, held down the "Phone Answer" button on the right side of the steering wheel Then, within a half second, also held down the "OK" button on the other side of the wheel. Must do it quickly
4. Held both buttons pressed for 5 or 6 seconds and the desired menu appeared.
5. Highlighted the parking brake legend and clicked OK. Then, I could hear the parking brake release.

Dealer told me front brakes are at 3mm, warning light will come up soon and it MUST be changed together with the rotors because the rotors are concave... hmm.. is this all true? What if I just change pads??

If the rotors are heavily grooved, then the new pads may not work well until they also develop grooves to match.
