Command system replacement.

I was wondering if someone could tell me when replacing the command system with an aftermarket head unit do you lose all of the system screens of the old unit?

I honestly don't think you ever need to replace the head unit. There are android powered screens sold on ebay and aliexpress that can couple with the factory command unit. They are about $500-600 but you can choose to use android or use the NTG mode.

In my experience with 2 of the AVIN units, you do not lose all, but you do lose some and/or they don’t work as before. There is a place in setup where you can define the buttons in the new unit, but without adequate instruction, I have not used those settings.

You lose nothing if you do the install of an Android unit properly.

I did the installation. You lose nothing unless you break any. The Android system replaces the old screen and it gets power through a pass-through plug placed between the command unit and its main plug. The Android system has its own antennas and the sound output goes to the AUX port, which you need to route the cable to the glove box. The Android system has NTG mode if you put it in this mode it would be EXACTLY THE SAME as the factory unit except that the screen is larger which makes the display a little blurry. Otherwise if you put the command system audio input as AUX you can enjoy the benefits of the Android system. The Android system can also work with a 360 camera if your vehicle doesn't have one, just need a lot of work to install.

Ah, I thought the question was regarding the dash board readouts, which in my installations have been less robust then the OEM Command Unit. As far as the unit itself the display is superior. And the new CarPlay dongle works really well.
