Front slips in tight cornering or slippery roads

Hi, My ML350 front end slips when I'm doing tight cornering, like u turn or in the ball of a court. It's especially noticeable on slippery or lose surfaces. I suspect its the front diff. But had a mechanic say the diff is fine. There is no noise or grinding and the car seems to drive fine, Though occasionally there is a clunk from the centre of the car. Could windup or slip in transfer case. The only other symptom is, (which don't think is related), the front end hydroplanes badly in puddles on the highway. Has anyone experienced this before, and if not the diff, any thoughts what else it could be?

Thanks for your help

I think you're simply experiencing t-case bind. I get that weird grabby loosey feeling when accelerating from a standstill at almost-or-full lock left or right. Our Beemer does the same thing, and my Grand Cherokee SRT did it as well.

Thanks Peter, that fits. I assume its going to be the clutch pack in the T-Case that is the culprit then. Doesn't seem to much else in there it could be.

On my GMC Safari AWD, there was an additive GM sold for the t-case. You'd pour the bottle into the t-case, then do a few figure 8's and the binding would be gone. I wonder if such a product exists for our vehicles...

Don't know any answers with your Diff, but if you're experiencing frequent hydroplaning over puddles, etc... get some decent new tires. Hydroplaning is a factor when tread-life is so low that water in puddles cannot be dispersed through the tire tread. (I'm sure you already know this) With a vehicle as heavy as an MB, there should be no hydroplaning, unless of course, your driving double or better of the speed limit... LOL! not fun drifting towards a cement wall with zero recourse!!!

Thanks Keonig, it will be getting new front tyres next week.
I've always put good tyres on it, not that much choice anyway, The car came with 21" rims which tends to limit options. It certainly better with new tyre's but never fully gone. It's fine on wet roads, just puddles it likes to ski across. I just slow down to below 100km/h if I see them coming and its okay, just annoying when limit is 110km/h.
Previous tyres were Continentals, current are Pirelli's and they are both the same. Luckily Winter is coming to an end down here.

Hey, 100-110KPH is plenty fast enough in the rain. Any vehicle out there will pretty much start to hydroplane at those speeds. But then it's your choice and vehicle.....
