W166 center console lid broken? Easy fix!

W166 center console lid broken? Easy fix!
Like many people, the right center console latch broke on my ML350 at 48,250 miles. I tried several things, which most seemed to require taking half the car apart to get the console out.

I found a simple and easy fix that works and lasts.

steps:
open console.

take out bottom mat

remove the two torex screws at bottom front

slide up front cover with mmi ports

reach your fingers up and push latch to locked position

blow up a 8” or 10” latex balloon. I got a nice thick one at Party City for 15 cents. I chose pink but color choice is up to you. You will not see it. Blow up to about the size of two golf *****

gently wedge balloon behind latch lever and back of console tray

reinstall everything

enjoy a working console

MB’s of all kinds.
Nice. Post some pics maybe? I have not had mine break yet. However, I find many parts in the ML are not the best quality lol.

I did mine 6 months ago. Still going strong. You are not inflating the balloon enough to even stretch it so it does not leak.
