location of auxiliary battery for 2014 ML350 4Matic
recently started getting the "auxiliary battery malfunction" warning when starting my 2014 ML350 4matic
. noticed there are multiple videos on you tube about how to replace.
first question is on the 2014 model where is the aux battery located ?

It depends how your vehicle is equipped but typically it will be in the trunk behind the right hand panel. There is a small bracket inside of there below the tail lamp.

Is that video for a 2014 ml350?
the reason I am asking is because some videos shows it is under the right rear passenger seat where the main battery resides - this seems like a less involved work to replace it.
Some video shows it’s in the trunk and work to replace seems more involved and requires taking off more layers
so I got a bit confused
thanks for your comment.

It is a 2012 but should still be fairly helpfulThat being said, does your vehicle have eco start/stop? If it does you'll need the larger battery (000 982 96 08) if not your vehicle will take the smaller batter (000000 004039). The vehicle options will also affect where the battery is located such as air suspension so it really depends how it's equipped. I'd get the right battery first then check whichever location you'd prefer then go from there!

No it dies not have eco start stop. So 000000 004039 is the right battery I think
the main battery for my 2014 ml350 4matic is at in front of the right rear passenger seat. So I am thinking looking at that area first and based on some video once I expose the main battery under the carpet etc. I should be able to also see the aux battery deeper down in the same area
any one in this forum has any other direct experience on replacing a 2014 ML’s aux battery?
thanks in advance

If you post your VIN, one of us can definitively tell you where the aux battery is located, and the part number.

The main starting battery is under the passenger seat. An auxiliary battery is in the right sidewall behind trim, as shown in the first video. 4039 is the correct part number for the "additional" battery as Mercedes refers to it.

It is not trivial, but several simple tasks to complete the work. There are some people who cut the cover , but I would not do it. Here it is (2013 ML350 Bluetec)

Not sure on the Diesel model but I think its on the drivers side rear seat. There have been pictures posted on this site of the different locations. Continue to search. Sorry I can't give you more info since mine is not a Bluetec and I have already replace the battery in my 2015 ML gas .. Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I looked in and down that side hatch and all I see is a reservoir tank for my air suspension but cannot see the battery.
Must be under the front passenger seat next to the main battery. Will have a deeper look and when I change the main (original 7 years!!) I will change the auxiliary.
Regards

I was wrong! It was under that air tank in the right rear hatch down low and I cut the carpet as shown in the videos and reached in and removed the 04039 battery.
Thanks everyone.

FYI: I just successfully replaced my Aux battery WITHOUT cutting the carpet, and WITHOUT removing the side trunk liner (and the rubber sealing along the tail gate).
I removed spare tire, jack/tools, the bottom trunk liner, and the passenger side plastic trim piece, and stainless inlaid trunk piece… as well as the little cover behind the first aid kit.
the battery is small enough to replace, without removing the big side trunk liner.
It’s just challenging to remove/re-install the metal bracket that holds the battery in.
