Tire size for my 2014 ML350

Hi

Currently I have all season tires on my SUV 265/45R20 .

I am getting a good deal on winter tires with AMG rims but the size is 255/40R19 - would they work or are they recommended or are they too small. for a SUV

thanks

My 2014 ML 350 is stock with 255/40R19 tires and wheels. So size I would consider them just fine, but then do you have 19" rims to go with those 255/40R19?

yes these come with AMG rims . So should be good? Do you have 255/40R19 for sure? can you double check? yours might be 255/50R19. Can you please check

My bad I have 255/50R19 tires and rims. But if you have AMG rims the 255/40R19 will not fit those rims.....You still need new rims. If you install the 255/40R19, then likely your speedo will read wrong.

I meant the tires are on the 19" AMG rims already. But not sure if 255/40R19 would be good for SUV or not

Go here: https://tiresize.com/calculator/ and plug in your current tire/wheel combination and compare with your 19" AMG and see how big a circumference difference it will be. Mainly you might see a speedo reading wrong speed with the 19

The other thing you need to look at is LOAD Rating. These are Heavy SUV, and need tires with at least XL Load capabiltiy. So that's something you need to consider beyond just the size. My opinion is you pass on these rims and tires. THE AMG for the SUV are 20" and not 19" rims.

Thanks. I checked the offset, it was way different as well. So I passed on it. Those were tires off an S-Class sedan.

Oh, yes definitely the tires would not have worked due to the weight differences between the S-Class and the ML-Class. The S-Class starts at 4500lbs and tops out at 5200lbs, while ML-Class starts at 4700lbs and tops out at 6000lbs. So on average depending on engine and options and nearly 1000lb difference.

Er - perhaps you mean 255/50R19, not 255/40R19? No W166 ML ever came stock with 255/40R19. Thoise are indeed too small (sidewall height / diameter / circumference-wise) and probably don't have the load rating for an SUV.
