Heated/Cooled Cupholder Question

Hey everyone --

Quick question for anything with a heated/cooled cupholder who had it as an ORIGINAL option.

Does your cupholder light up no matter what time of day it is? IE -- are the yellow (solar) lights on at all times of the day, no matter if it's dark or not?

Asking because I retrofitted mine with the proper wiring harness, and tapping into the cig lighter for power. It's 4 plugs -- 3 x 12v's and 1 ground. Ever since I installed mine, it would illuminate when the truck was on, and when entering/exiting vehicle (would turn off after 30 seconds or so, timed with the interior lighting). About a week ago, I noticed it stopped doing so, only illuminating in low light conditions / headlights were turned on. So I'm just trying to determine whether or not that's how it should work from the factor, or if my wiring harness/retrofit may have a short in it somewhere.

THANKS!!

Yes, lighted at night but not sure during the day. If it is, I don't notice any ambient light. It's set to the color you have selected but turns red when hot and blue when cooling.

That's what I need to verify for sure though. The solar color is bright enough to see during the day if it's on -- you'll notice it, and could clearly see the led's light up. And yes, it turns blue for cooling, red for hot and solar when off w/ lights on.

Lit with ambient lighting when not actively heating or cooling.

Ambient lighting is not active unless the headlamps are on (automatic light sensor).

bummer -- that's what I was afraid of. I kinda dug the cupholder light always being on. Something clearly is shorted though or a connector or two got disconnected on the heated/cooled cupholder.

Because part 2 of this is I added footwell lighting to the truck as well (as I also retrofitted ambient in my truck with all OEM parts etc (see my other thread). When doors would open, no matter if dark outside or not, the footwell lights (tapped from the front cig lighter) would power up, meaning juice was coming to the cigarette lighter. But now, it's only when the truck is on.

My door/dash ambient light continues to behave as expected though, only coming on when headlights are on. INTERESTINGLY though, my dad's 2012 ML (with 876 installed from factory), ALWAYS has the ambients in the doors on.

Could also be a coding thing via vedamio. I had my retrofit done by MBHouse. Mine initial install originally only turned on when the key was in the ignition.

The fix only took an hour or so if I remember, so it’s nothing complicated.

Vid is of what it should NOT be like

you're saying it should NOT be like the video because the unit in that case has been heating up, the little indicator is illuminated stating "hot -- do not touch" and the key is turned off and with it, the whole unit powers off too?

If so, I agree, and that is what mine was doing originally after installing, but suddenly has decided to stop.

Reviving this thread, different question. I haven't been able to determine whether mine work properly. When I first got the vehicle (and many things were unfamiliar) I swear I felt it both cool and warm when testing it. Then I couldn't get it stay on, either blue or red. Then, it occurred to me that maybe there had to be something in the cupholder to work, and I thought I had it figured out again, but today my stainless steel water bottle seemed like it might be frozen so I tried the heat: light shuts off after several seconds, same with cooling. I'm guessing it can't be a fuse, or the blue and red lights wouldn;'t light at all. Thoughts??
