Vented Seats Retrofit

It's summertime now and my yearning for the vented seats has returned. I searched, anyone ever retrofitted them? Is it just as simple as adding the fan to the seats and replacing the switch panel with vented seats button? I also have the MB-Tex interior not leather. Is it possible on that material? Someone please shatter my dreams

Edit: Found the Seat Switch Panel and Seat Fans, is there a separate controller on the seat for these? Or is it just controlled through the switch?

The seat back is also vented - you'll need to replace them.

The back support covers you mean, yes currently trying to hunt that down. I going to actually remove my current ones and take a peak and what's behind there sometime this week.

I was able to get the back cover off today. Looks like I would need to cut out the circles for the fans to install into, I would need to figure out how they secured the fans into the backrest pad, as I did not see any brackets for them or a different backrest pad for cooled seats.

The power plugin is there in the seats, which most likely means they would be plug and play once the appropriate seat switch is installed.

Mercedes has the worst vented seats. This is a waste of time and money.

Dont you also need the button that goes on the center console that goes next to the option for the heated seats?

Good luck with this project. Seems like a lot to do and may require a software/computer update somewhere.

Maybe, however having vented seats (as a factory installed option and nor retrofitting later on) vs. not having them makes a big enough difference specifically in FL. Have MB cars with and without vented seats, and the difference is very noticeable when getting into sweltering car after it was parked for even 15 minutes under FL's baking sun.

Mercedes is the only company to have ventilated seats. Everyone else has cooled seats. There is a world of difference. I have ventilated seats in my E350, CLK and CL. I don’t use them as I see no point. Heated seats I use nearly all the time.

Not true at all and congratulations for responding to a troll post 6 months later.

Vented seats? Jeep and Chevy come to mind in addition to Mercedes. They don't work great, but see post 9...

Ventilated seat retrofit

I recently completed a multi contour seat retrofit on my 2000 s500. The signals for the ventilated and heated seats are all CAN controlled, find a nice set of seats along with the buttons on the doors and the system is plug and play. The connector which plugs into the seat is all the same, however I’m not sure about compatibility with pre facelift and facelift models so I’d try sticking close to your model year.

Hi all,
Great thread.

Just FYI I have retrofitted factory ventilated seats to my X253 GLC. I purchased used seats from a car that had them installed from factory.
All I needed to do was connect the seats to my original seat modules under the seats, add the button in the door card and recode the ignition switch for option code 401 (ventilated seats).

They work very well, especially with the AC on. Admittedly I'm not in Florida, I'm in England. However, we've had some pretty hot summers lately and I'm often using the car for short journeys where it heats up quickly while parked, especially as it has the panoramic sunroof.

I will say that Mercedes has recently superseded the part number for the original fans and they are now significantly cheaper (£78+VAT here in UK for a pair of fans for the seat base) A0999060606

The thing that seems REALLY expensive is the factory seat foam that is specific to this option (around £350+VAT retail). There's also the seat backs with the grilles that are around £180 off memory (https://mercteil.com/mercedes-benz-a...are-part-ZEonN)
However, it wouldn't surprise me if all you need to do is cut out the holes in the middle of the regular seat foam. However these things seem less essential than the fans themselves.

Hopefully this is helpful to anyone else wishing to retrofit these.
