iPod Classic not working (media interface)

Hope you are staying warm. I have an iPod Classic with the 30-pin connector and would like to connect with the Comand system (this is a recently-purchased used vehicle). The Media Interface Cable (i.e MMI to 30-pin short cable) does not seem to be communicating with the Comand radio. When plugged in, it is charging the iPod. However, when I select "Media Interface" under the audio settings in Comand, it says there is no device connected. I would really like to be able to charge my iPod and browse the music directly from the Comand (i.e. playlists, artists, etc).
I tried a different MMI to 30-pin from Amazon, but that ended up causing my iPod to immediately go into a loop reset...don't really want to try that again.
Would it be a broken cable, or is there something else I should check (e.g. fuse, etc)?
Thanks so much!
iPod Classic connected to center console via media interface cable.
Media Interface selected on COMAND
No device connected
If you have a USB flash drive with music on it and plug it into the USB port and select it dose the radio see it?

Is your iPod nano plugged into the USB port or the Media interface cable/port?
thanks much.

I think it's a safety benefit, since it can charge an iPhone (via the 30-pin to lightning adapter) if the phone battery gets low.
Thanks much again.

**edit: just saw that you ordered the cable**
Should solve your problem.
