I have been working with this gentleman to assist in making sure there are zero remaining ECU issues. However as luck would have it, I had an elderly family member suffer from an unexpected and very unfortunate injury that resulted in four broken ribs at the age of 75. This has turned my work schedule on its end not as caregiver and very limited time at my shop. The situation became so severe on Monday morning that we were unsure if she would still be with us at the end of the day. Recovery has not occurred at the rate expected, and on top of that other setbacks have occurred regarding her health. The good news is she has been showing consistent improvement the past couple of days and compared to Monday it appears promising. Much less confusion and less pain. It has not been an ideal situation for any of us involved but is nothing that could have been prevented. With that said, I hope and do expect we will have this resolved with high confidence in coming days - not weeks. For those who are looking for an and are perhaps considering this E55, I can assure you will not be disappointed and consider this example being well worth the wait.

  • Weistec CAI
  • 82mm TB
  • Kleemann mid-length headers with flex joints welded in place
  • Custom fabbed 3" stainless X pipe, no cats

  • 630cc Bosch injectors
  • 5 gallon trunk tank, with Rule 2000 in-tank pump
  • Killer Chiller
  • Tony Lawshee ECU tune
  • PLM heat exchanger and Bosch 010 pump in front (both brand new)
  • Two TCUs, one stock, one tuned
  • One step colder spark plugs
  • 3-Piece, HRE 595R wheels
  • Real carbon fiber HRE center caps ($700!)
  • Michelin PSS tires (less than 800 miles, no burnouts)
  • Racing Brake 2 piece front rotors and EBC pads ($1250, saves 12lbs. per rotor of rotating mass)
  • East Coast Billet motor mounts
  • Full E63 front end conversion, was done VERY well. Paint is perfect. Front bumper has not been drilled for a license plate.
  • Godhand carbon fiber front lip
  • JL Motoring rear diffuser in carbon fiber
  • Dry carbon mirror covers
  • DTMS flat-bottom steering wheel with upgraded E63 shift paddles and matching wood ($1200)
  • E63 LED tail lights (they throw a code on the dash occasionally but it doesn't bother me)

Items that come with the car but are not currently on it:
  • Stock rims and nearly brand new Continental DW06 tires
  • Set of low mileage cylinder heads ready for porting (from a CLS55)
  • Custom set of DRLs and enclosures, brand new never installed
  • Carbon fiber side skirts, brand new, never installed
  • MyGenius handheld tuner
  • Extra pulleys and belts for blower
  • New set of spark plug wires
  • Original OEM tail lights and an extra set of E63 LED tails

Full transmission service (valve body, conductor plate, filter, fluids, etc. done at 61,904 miles along with motor mounts, front and rear brakes changed in full (rear are OEM)

I have maintained this car with an open checkbook. I have babied it since the day I bought it. It has never been to a track, on a dyno or in any legit street racing. I have put less than 4,000 miles on it in 4 years. It sits in my garage and hardly gets driven. Needless to say it has never seen rain or snow.

I had the windshield replaced because I couldn't stand rock chips in it.

The wheels are absolutely incredible. It's likely that you will never see another set on an E55. Satin centers with gloss black lips. They would cost over $6000 to replicate without the center caps or tires. They fit the car perfectly. The rear lip is as deep as you can get on these cars.

The exhaust note is sublime. The Renntech mufflers do not sound like C63 mufflers and that is why I bought them. They have a deeper, lower growl. Less raspy. They are nearly identical to the Eisenmann design. And they look great from behind the car since they are polished stainless. The tips stick out perfectly.

The Weistec setup, Killer Chiller, brakes, motor mounts and transmission service have less than 900 miles on them. I just installed a brand new, OEM Mercedes battery.

Paint: 9/10 (rock chips in hood, small ding near fuel door, scratch near E55 badge on deck-lid)
Interior: 9.5/10 or better, it's nearly flawless
Mechanically: 9.5/10 (I think the passenger side valve cover gasket is leaking slightly again)
Maintenance: 9.9/10...to my knowledge, nothing is needed.

Needs: I painted the valve covers wrinkle black and they need a repaint. The rear diffuser could fit better. A body shop could certainly get it looking better. Maybe a single stage paint correction just to get some light swirls out.

Unfortunately, the person handling the ECU programming for this car has disappeared for over a week now (again). The saga continues...

Well, the individual who was diagnosing/programming the new ECU for this car turned out to be a flake and has vanished. He wasted lots of time, my money and caused an extreme amount of frustration. He also has not returned the additional ECU that I purchased and sent to him. So, I went ahead and sent the original ECU out to a REPUTABLE shop that can and will perform the necessary work. If it cannot be repaired, I will be purchasing an entirely new unit that will come with a one year warranty. The ECU will arrive at that shop this upcoming Monday. The process is in motion again. Once I get the ECU back, the car will be ready for sale. I apologize to those who have taken interest in this car. If you still have interest, contact me in about 10 days and we can proceed.

Nice example and that is a great price too! Why not get Tony to sort the ECU out for you since he tuned it originally looks like?

This place is a joke.
17 year MB dealership tech here, just trying to help out...I have not seen a successful "repair" of any engine ECU's. I know there are companies out there claiming they can fix them....the ones that were attempted were eventually replaced with an oem reman. from Mercedes. On another note..the last E55 I went through with this had a bad engine wiring harness...down in the valley inside the rubber casing the harness was corroded and the wire insulation was flaking off. Car had 160k miles. This burned out the ECU. Good luck anyways!

I tried that. Tony seems like a great guy but he wasn't much help, to be honest. It was hard getting him on the phone, then when I told him the symptoms, etc. he suggested I ship the whole car down to Atlanta...which is cost prohibitive obviously.

Thanks. I spoke to Pressertech and they could not repair the ECU. I just dumped another $1500 on a new one with an accompanying tune. They "guaranteed" it will work and it has a 2 year warranty. Fingers crossed.

I have received the new, tuned ECU from Pressertech. It is brutally cold up here in the Northeast, so I am going to wait for the weather to warm up a bit before I run/drive the car. One thing everyone should know is that the secondary air injection system will need to be coded out via STAR because it will throw a CEL. I do not have a STAR system on hand to do so.

Nope. I haven't touched it due to the weather up here. It's just sitting in my garage. When I get some nicer days and there isn't a foot of snow on the ground, I will put the new ECU in and get it ready to go.

Man too bad with the ECU problems but kudos to you for being a stand up person. And it's a blessing in disguise that it cropped up whilst still in your possession and not being sold b/c that would indeed cause difficulties!

GLWS and I'd be intrigued and interested EXCEPT for the fact that I doubt this would pass the ridiculous smog requirements here in the PRK...
.[for those unaware that stands for the People's Republik of Kalifornia]/

This "state" has truly gone off its' rocker on many levels, but that's for another rant.

I would never dump a problem like this on an unsuspecting buyer. I've had it done to me and it's terrible. I will make the car as close to 100% as I can before it changes ownership. This car is a knockout and I hope it lives on for many years.

And this car would be a nightmare to inspect/pass smog in CA!

I know it; we know it; just can't imagine it going awol on you AFTER it was sold, that's all I'm saying.

Gawd, I need to hit the lottery so I can leave this God forsaken state. It wasn't this way when I moved here 40 years ago. It was paradise.

GLWS and keep us posted as I know you will.

Beautiful car man. Everything I want my future E55 purchase to be. Hopefully you get all the ECU kinks worked out. The person that sent the original deposit is still interested, so at least that is going for you.
