Finally took delivery

Well after more than a year of waiting i have finally taken delivery of my maybach 62. As there aren't any demonstrators available in Australia i had never actually seen one in the flesh, it was a leap of faith but i am more than pleased. The ride is absolutely astonishsing, i currently drive a 01 S600 and didnt think the ride could get much better, it really is like floating on air. The interior fitout is great, i went for the solid exterior colour, wasn't partial to the two tone combinations. The vehicle truly is massive, it fits into my garage by only a few centimetres. I have only driven it once and was impressed with the acceleration. My driver has been surprised at the performance given the vehicles size. The only down side is the amount of attention it attracts, at the moment i am the only Maybach owner in the country so people are shocked when they see this behemoth coming down the streets. Unfortunately on our first freeway run a stone hit the windshield and caused a chip, nothing major and barely noticing but annoying none the less. Overall an absolutely amazing vehicle which justifies the nearly million dollar price tag. If you can afford it buy it!

Congrats, are you take some pictures or perhaps make some videos of the ride?

By the way how many Maybachs are there in Hong Kong, since that seems to be your second residency.

I have only seen on maybach 62, although i am sure there are many more. I am only in Hong Kong a few months a year and just have an S430, Although i must admit that the service provided by Zung-Fu is exceptional although that seems to be true of everythin in asia. Cathay Pacific and Shangri-la Hotels two examples of the exceptional service standards, and one of the major reasons i choose Hong Kong as my second home, apart from the tax laws of course.

Seems like quite a small number actually.....

I know of at least 12 Maybachs in Dubai forgetting the neighbouring cities. Seen two on the streets so far.

Hong Kong has 6+ Million people Dubai alone has ~1.4 Million so I am surprised at how few Maybachs are delivered already. BTW India already has at least 5 Maybachs most taken from Dubai

Be a driver more often. Even though the recliners are very comfortable, its fun to drive every now and then. A test drive showed the handling to be surprising for a car of its size.

I am semi-retired, at least i have been for the past two years. But apart from that i love these cars, it is really the only hobby that i have always made time for and i enjoy sharing my collecting experiences. I have also found that one learns far more from these forums than at your local dealer. Its all about being an informed consumer b/c the sales person is always going to try to squeeze as much revenue out of the customer, whether or not that 5K option really is "absolutley essential" or not. Needless to say i dont like getting ripped off. Finally there was a time when i couldnt afford a maybach and i know i would have loved to hear about others experiences.

350 in the US. Most other countries have a heavy import or registration tax for cars.

Yeah the tax in HK is rediculous....we use a sliding scale here in H.K.......any part of the car value above 600,000 HKD or USD 77,000 is taxed 100 percent..........................So if the Maybach costs say around 350,000 in the US....then 273,000 of that is taxed 100 percent so the car is at least 623,000 not mentioning the tax on the first 77,000 which is the begining of the sliding scale. All options are taxed with the total value of the car.....So all the options on the Maybach is taxed 100 percent.....cruel..........

In Australia the 62 lists for 950,000 Australian Dollars, with a couple of options an on road costs i paid 1,112,000. That was about 889,000 USD when i paid fo mine. Aussie dollar has dropoed 10cents since then though.

it seems to me like H.K. Has a totally unfair tax system on their cars anyways

How much would this cost in Germany (in USD)? Does the US have a tax on imported cars too? California has a gas guzzler tax. Is this tax the same in all 50 States?

Is your tax dependent on the country of origin? For example, are Japanese cars taxed at the same rate?

its unfair to those who can afford expensive cars. This new higher tax system was implemented early 2003, before it was based on engine capacity, and the tax ranged from 40-60%.

SO, with the new tax system, inexpensive cars would not have changed in price much, like my CLK200 probably went up about $2K USD but cars like SL55's went up from $1.6M to $2M which is a $50,000 USD difference.

Its times like these i wish all cars were based on a standard % of the value like how singapore does, although thier tax is 171% of the retail value.
