We are quite late in the game for them to not have him. But by all means, why have they not announced him?
I checked his website:
www.scottspeed.com
No news there.
Is he holding out for money. Is Gerhard holding things up?

Speed is in
Well BMWH, what you heard was right. It is official. What I like best, is that he jumps in the car, and has best lap time of A. L.

Speed retained by Toro Rosso
Saturday, 24, February, 2007, 16:33
Scott Speed will continue to race for Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2007, the team confirmed on Saturday afternoon.
The American's future at the Red Bull junior squad has been in doubt all winter, following an inconsistent debut season in Formula 1 last year.
Speculation that Speed could be dropped for the forthcoming campaign heightened at STR's 2007 car launch event at Barcelona last week, when only Vitantonio Liuzzi was confirmed in one of its race seats - with the team revealing it still had "contractual issues" to sort out with Speed.
However the outfit announced following the end of the penultimate group test of pre-season in Bahrain that an agreement with the 24-year-old had been reached and he had been re-signed for this year.
The confirmation came after Speed made his first appearance in the STR2 car on the third day of testing at the Sakhir circuit.
He completed 60 laps on his return and although he finished bottom of the times, he did record the team's best lap time of the week.

It is important to have an American driver in this sport. F1 and every body involved in it know the potential of the american market, which so far hasnt been utlilized efficiently at all. Having S.Speed in T.R. is very good for their approach in marketing their merchendice in what is possibly and potentially their biggest market.
Can you imagine the amount of profit and the effects of advertising that the F1 teams make through merchendising.

Not Mario, Michael... he's been saying that he won't let Marco go unless it is with a top team, and those rides are few and far between.

Scott Speed
Speed wasn't that great of a driver when he was working in the US...one good thing you can say about him...his name is a marketers dream. I don't think he even scored a point last year. Well, looks like NASCAR might be gaining some more drivers....VILLENUEVE could be one of them...he can't buy an F1 ride
