V6 spark plug torque specs and recommendations

Does anyone know the V6 (280) spark plug torque specs.

This is my first time changing plugs on a Benz, anything I should watchout for?

And what plugs do you recommend?

I was planning on going with the stock plugs (from the owner's manual) unless you think otherwise.

GL320CDI / C63 Edition 507 Coupe (EDP) / E63 S (on order) / G500 / Smart Brabus
28Nm. I would say in the M112 engine, use ONLY the plugs recommended stock (and no substitutes).

Any pitfalls to watch out for? These are probably the original plugs I am taking out. Should I wet the area down with some liquid wrench first?

No need to unless you have one thats stuck. Remember you have 12 plugs. When installing use some anti seize on the threads. Sounds like you have never done this before. If thats the case have someone do it for you and watch.

Done plenty, just never on an alum. head.

Of course I'm a little worried that the original plugs might be difficult to remove after 5-6 years. We will see. I know plenty of people who aren't too fond of 100,000 mile plugs.

In extreme cases of hard-to-remove plugs, you'll want to use lots of liquid penetrant, removing the plugs hot, perhaps using some back-and-forth action with the wrench, or any combination of these techniques.

Ditto on the antisieze.

What've you been driving that you've never worked on aluminum heads? This is unusual nowadays.

If you find a few that refuse to break loose,change the plugs that you can,then start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.A stuck plug will usually back out if the head's warm: the aluminum expands faster with heat than the steel plug body,so its' grip on the threads eases quite a bit.
The box that your new plugs are in probably specifies tightening the plug a specific amount after the its' gasket contacts the head.

I'm going to buy my plugs this weekend. What do you recommend?

Should I go with what the book says, or I spend the extra money and go with the Iridium plugs (those are the $10 a piece plugs, right)?

Can any gains be had here, other than just having new plugs?

Like scorchie said, go with original. These 'premium' plugs are sometimes a problem for MB engines.

So no Bosch platium +2 (I know the +4 suck) or NGK?

I'm going to my local Advance Auto Parts store and just in case they don't have the originals I might be tempted to buy another brand.

Anyone try the +2?

My local store only as the Bosch plat +2.

There is a pep boys around here, but its a pain to get there. I'll give them a call.


Called Pep Boys and all they have is the +2 also...WTF is going on?


Other than Bosch, what do you recommend?

For whatever reasons, my local stores do not carry the OEM plugs...

I'm planning on changing my plugs tomorrow, so I'm looking for other than originial plug recommedations.

Bosch +2, NGK, autolight, Denso, whatever works.

I have had good success with the iridium plugs in my C 320. A little bit pricey, but in the end worth it to me.
