mbtech, do you have more information about the fuel settings?
there is a discussion re 3 modes for fuel usage for the C230k coupe. default, economy, and power mode. do you have more info re the differences? what is the power difference? someone said that the power mode would need 93 octane (but i thought CA only has upto 91).

heh, i was at the dealership today and Dennis, the mechanic, had no idea what i was talking about. we looked thru some of the computer's menu systems but couldn't find anything. maybe its just a rumor? Dennis said he'd look into it but its not promising.

It's likely a rumor. I don't even know what the "settings" would do, or how they would do it. I've never seen anything in the DAS laptop diagnostic computer either, so I'm with your technician Dennis.

But that would make sense, wouldn't it? Rich => performance, lean => economy. That's what ECU upgrade chips do among other things - make the engine run a little richer.

I am aware of how aftermarket chips enhance performance, but if you're looking for a Jekyll and Hyde mode buried in the car's own computer, you're not going to find anything.

Hm... pretty intriguing... I have every reason to believe that a highly knowledgeable MB technician such as yourself would be informed much better that any of us, but... what if they (MB) have a back door to their firmware? You know, sometimes programmers leave a back door in their programs, of which only they are aware, that can be used for testing etc... what if???

renntech, who works at an MB dealership in Jacksonville, claims to have had this change made and it added to his performance. There are numerous discussions about this in the C-Class forum.
