MB TECH HELP PLEASE car shuting off

i said, i drove about 2 miles for the first time all day,on my way to NE Philladelphia for a work meeting, i stoped at a red light and before the light turned green i felt my car "stall" out. i put it in D and tried to start it numerous times and it wouldnt stat. i put it in Neutral and tried as well. i didnt want to burn anything out so i put myu hazards on and waiting for my buddy with a tow truck to come get my *** out of the middle of the road. i saw a scruffy guy sitting at a bus stop and asked him if he wanted to help me out so i gave him $20 to help me push it out of the road. he thanked me 10000 times appoligizing for puting his hands all over the car while he pushed, lol. but anyway...i dont know WHATS WRONG??? could it be my MAF ???. when i finaly got hime i started the car, it fired right up and ran for 15min. till i shut it off, but now im afraid to drive it, i think i need a MAF also, dont know if this could be affecting it or not. sorry for long post....anyone know whats up????? it wont start when it is warm or after is has shut off by itself...MAF ?? CPS??? rear SAM????? ECU "flash" ???? will a diagnostic scan put me the rigth way? HELP!! PLEASE w203 (01 c240) auto trans.

Crankshaft sensor?? MAF would not do it. Could also be fuel pump. Why not begin to maintain the car to a better standard??

Crankshaft/camshaft sensor, MAF, CEL gas cap, blah, blah, blah. These seem to always be the first things everyone thinks of. Have you thought about changing the battries in your e-key? Sometimes that's all it is.

What?

[QUOTE=Jayhawk] Have you thought about changing the battries in your e-key? QUOTE]
The key does not need a battery to start or run the car, only to activate the remote features. That's why the metal key is attached to it....in case the battery is dead you can still open the car and start it.

You might want to double-check your facts.

He is correct, the key does not need a battery to activate the ignition. Batteries power only the remote lock, etc.

definitly NOT the problem, my car is cleaned thoroughly in/out 5 times a week. i also am always cleaning out my air filters, blowing out crevises where dirt could get, my motor is super super clean, polished vale covers, etc. you could eat a 5 coarse meal off of it, all my cars are that way.

Polishing and cleaning and blowing out filters is not mechancial maintenance!

Mechanical maintenance is regular preventive maintenance performed by professionals.

Clean means nothing as so far as preventative maint or reliability. How about the services and inspections by a dealer?? Has the computer ever been searched for faults, etc??

Wilmington is excellent. Same owner as West Chester, and R&S in Ft Washington. I would steer real clear of the 2 independents you mentioned. In my opinion they are both hacks of the worst degree.

In my opinion you should stay with dealer maint. A cheap hourly rate is the only advantge to an independent. However when its all said and done the bottom line with dealer maint should be no more than independent maint. They go to training regularly, have all approved parts, and have access to the latest factory info and bulletins. Generally what you find working at independents are people that do not qualify for a dealer position. I will say no more about the guys you mentioned but heed my advice!!

sosh, in your area that might be correct, but in austin for any work I can't handle myself I take my benz to ben's workshop. they charge less than the dealer for mb branded parts and do work that's equal to if not better than the dealer. they're also a good source for parts if you're a DIY'er. Oh, and they only work on MBs.

I had a very similar problem with my '00 S500. After doing alot of researching on this forum I narrowed it down to the crankshaft sensor. I took it to Jaguar and a friend scanned the car and found nothing but said either the crankshaft sensor or the fuel pump. I took a chance but bought the sensor for $70 and had a friend install it. Takes between 30-45 although I was told 15 m in by a MB tech. Search my prior posts in the Techincal Questions thread and the W220 thread for any more details you might need. I have changed the MAF sensor in the past but that would go really rough at idle then stop but I was able to restart it right then. Your car will most likely start up when the engine is not that hot which is why it'll start at first but give up at a light. Good luck. Hope this helps.
