How to get rid of used oil
What do you do with the oil and filter after you change it? How or where do you get rid of it? How do I store it for disposal? I can't just leave it out to the garbageman can I? What about other fluids like tranny, coolant, etc.?
Since my 2002 C240 is already at 125k miles I'm trying DIY for maintenance work. There's so much to do!

I store mine in a 5 gallon gas can until it is full. Then I take mine to a local gas station. They have a recycle unit. I just insert the suction hose into my can and suck the oil out. Advance Auto Parts stores provide the same service in SE Virginia. I believe the filters can go in the trash. I let mine drip dry in a can before I toss them.

i take it to the local auto parts store here, they used to give you like 5% discount for brining in oil but i guess it is a law now so they just take it and make you feel lucky you dont pay them to dispose of it...

Your local garbage company should pick it up.
Not sure about other states, but here in CA, garbage companies offer free used oil + filter recycling service. They pick it up weekly, except you can only recycle the oil in their container (which they provide) + 1 gallon a week.

In OC you can return the used oil and filter to recycling centers, usually an auto parts store or quick lube. The law requires them to accept it without charge, and they are supposed to pay you 4 cents a quart, but most will tell you "we don't know anything about that."
