3.69 diff conversion

I have bought a 3.67 diff to convert on my W203 C200 Kompressor. I hear these are quite hard to do as mine is an auto. Does anyone know what is the hard part and what needs to be programmed and where I can get the appropriate parts needed?

If you are exchanging the differential housing as a complete assembly, it may not fit your W203 C200. The same applies to the axles (bolt on or push in) and the drive shaft flange.

If it’s a Ring and pinion, that’s a different set of problems.

Any change in gear ratio, caused by bigger tires, different transmission and differentials, will set a gear ratio code. The TCM and or ECU will need a soft wear reflash.

Will probablly be complete diff housing etc, havn't recieved it as yet, with the christmas break etc, but the wrecker is doing me a favour price wise and on a changeover so I imagine he will send it as complete as possible to save on his labour if that makes sense.

From what I have researched all I will need them to include is the EGS from the donar car, but I must admit this does seem too good to be true.

I had never taken into account different housing/axles etc this does make allot of sense, my W202 diff couldn't be interchanged when it blew so I was told by M.B.

ECUs and TCMs are version coded to a specific model, they are not interchangeable, unless it’s the same model. I believe the differential ratios are programmed into the ECU.

I am sure this must be possible, unless its an urban myth to do this with an auto. Either way I had been getting cold feet about the conversion but after reading this I think my feet are that cold they have frozen!!!!

Any MB parts department can cross reference your orginal differential part number to other models, and then you can try to fine the correct one. Good luck.

At the risk of sounding stupid, what do you mean?

They will use the differential part number for your 2002 C200 and check all MB models for a match, which model if any use the same differential and ratio as yours. A good salvage yard can do the same check.
