c320 2001 w203 seat and tilt steering wheel problem
i need some help. i have been trying to diagnosis 2 problems... here is the first one
problem #1. (drivers seat)
my front driver seat will not move forward or back. ALL other seat positions work. A few months back i noticed that my seat was no longer moving for easy in and out access. then about a week ago i attempted to re-sync my head rest and the seat by.... pushing down and holding the head restraint button and pushing forward and holding at the same time... holding for 5 seconds.... after doing this my front seat would not move BACK. all other seat positions work fine.
a. i checked all my fuses but did not think it is a fuse problem because every other seat positon works. is there anything that i could be missing?
b. i replaced both the control modules (in the driver door and under driver seat) with a new ones and it did not change anything.
so my QUESTIONS are....
==1. DO YOU THINK IT MAY BE A DOOR SWITCH PROBLEM OR A MOTOR PROBLEM?
==2. WHICH OF THE TWO MOTORS UNDER THE SEAT CONTROL CONTROL FORWARD AND REVERSE?
Problem #2 (power steering wheel tilt)
about 1 month ago... prior to the seat problems described above i ordered a brand new 2006-2007 style key for my car from OEMpartsdirectdotcom. using my old key my power tilt worked fine. Immediately after putting in my newly ordered key my steering wheel stopped moving up and down. the only movement of the steering wheel with this new key is in and out.
so my QUESTIONS are...
do you think the new key had anything to do with it? possibly new programing or something?
i know that more than likely this problem is associated with the tilt motor gear.. but i am trying to search for other possible causes.
any help would be great.
thanks

Problem #2 is probably the shaft that connects the steeing wheel up/down motor and the gear mechanism that actually moves the steering wheel up/down. This shaft commonly breaks. It is a small shaft that is shaped like a dog bone and is about 2 1/2" long.
A good identification that the shaft is broken is if you can hear the motor running while you are holding the up/down switch for the steering wheel, but the steering wheel isn't moving.

hi does anyone know how to remove the back seats for the c class w203 saloon?
i have just recently bought leather seats and want to fit them. i can take the cushion out with no problems. but cannot find a way to take the back bit of the seat off.
thanks

changing rear seat for w203 saloon
u take the four bolts off which are located under the cushion. then go to the booth. there will be two plastic oval covers on the backrest. take them off.
once uncovered, u will see a white(well mine was white) spring on each side remove it and turn the metal clip to the left. the back rest should now fall off.
i asked ages ago but these *******s are too ignorant to answer so i researched it myself.
thanks

Unfortunately, it's not an easy repair. Especially if you've never done it before.
A good independent mercedes mechanic should be able to help you out on the cost.
If you're in the Los Angeles area PM me and I can direct you to a good independent mechanic.

Thank u Oldschool wish I had the know how to do it myself but I guess most girls don't live in Miami but thank u for all ur help. For now have to drive it like this.... Either until I save up the cash or take some mechanics classes. Which might be a good idea since I bought this car w/ 6 years already on it, but super low mileage.

Are there any instructions specifically for removing the parts to get to the broken gear (for the power steering-tilt)? I mean not to remove any parts that is necessary.

what is SDS
s/o has posted saying after installing the new coupling column we'll need SDS to normalize the (steering tilt) motor. Do we really need to? If so, what is this SDS and how do we normalize it?
