Buy a generic from JC Whitney for $15. Buy a used from a different vehicle at a salvage yard for $5 and make it work.

What R U doin' with an S600 ifin you can't pop $60 down for a dipstick?

09 E350 ,
you need the factory tool dipstick that uses millimeters to measure oil level and then you need the spec sheet to tell how many millimeters is to much or to little ,just can't get any dipstick for this reason ,also does't the oil level sensor work ?

While I didn't check your prior posts, my guess is you were not rejoicing over the savings MB passes, directly to the consumer, realized by omitting that sliver of metal from the vehicle.

The dipstick tool I purchased for $120 must then make me twice as unlikely to drive an S600.

An MB dipstick, designed for the vehicle, with upper and lower level tick marks is a relative bargin. Also, leaving it in the engine and closing the hood is not possible with the tool.

Best of luck with a more cost-effective solution and the next cool ride that bargin enables.

Chances are pretty good that if your car did not come with a dipstick, the tube that's still there for testing and for oil evacuation at dealers is obscured by engine covers, etc.

If that's the case, then it's much less worth the trouble to look for these unless you're going to modify or leave off such engine covers.

The "testing" dipsticks that Mercedes sells are good for a wide variety of engines, and consequently (as previously posted) are NOT made for leaving in the engine. In most cases the dipstick won't go all the way in but instead bottoms before the handle is able to seal the top of the tube (which is required for your motor to run).

Yes. I know how to read it in the Instrument cluster display but I like to look at the oil and feel it.. Old fashioned I guess..

Dipstick tool

The prices for these things are all over the place. I paid just over $100 for one six years ago for my C320 which I traded in last Wednesday. And wonder of wonders, the new C300 has a dipstick and no FSS.

I would certainly be willing to sell the three foot long factory tool but shipping it could be a problem. Maybe a mailing tube...

Without the measurement interpretation page for your engine, the tool is useless.
