O2 sensors covered in emissions warrantee

Just had 2 o2 sensors replaced and dealer says not covered under emmissions warrantee. My owners manual says they are part of the emission system so I think they should be under the 80K 8yr fed. emissions warrantee does anyone have any reference that I can use to back it up?

In addition to your owners manual, you have/had a warranty booklet.

The 80K warranty only covers major systems like computers and cat converters.

Any item that is specified as a maintenance item, intended to be replaced before 80,000 miles, is exempted from the 80,000 federal emission systems warranty extension law.

A stricter law, in effect in CA, MA, and VT, covers the O2 sensor for 3 years or 50,000 miles. As a maintenance component, federal law only covers the O2 sensor for 2 years or 24,000 miles.

O2 sensors are consumables and should be replaced when they fail or trigger a check engine light. This is usually well before 80,000 miles. Cats are also consumables but normally last well beyond the 80000 mile mark. Cat failure is in many cases caused by the owner/operator using improper fuel or by not changing the O2 sensors when failed causing a very rich mixture and raw gas in the exhaust.

I have never heard that however the design attemp could be that. As I stated in a previous post most Cat failures other than mechanical/weld failures are caused by improper operation/fuel.

If I read this right on this link the Fed. Epa warantee should cover the o2 sensors under the 80,000 8yrs warrantee.
