You pay for warranty and you pay insurance premiums.

You think. Mercedes is @ fault per dealer

Dont anyone find that odd that airbags go off while driving for no reason?????
We better wake and smell the coffee because if it would have been the aigbag in the wheel that went off at 65mph on the highway someone could of been killed.

I would call MB asap for premature deployment of airbags (I would expect warranty, but what was the cause) ? . I would also file report on NTSB for the safety issue to hopefully prevent injuries to someone else. Just my $.02.

This is quite strange and I have not heard of it occurring before. I certainly do not believe it is a common issue but it is certainly a serious one..
Couple of questions;
Have there been any issue with the SRS light coming on or the pass air bag light coming or not coming on??
Has anyone worked on the pass door lately?
Has the car ever been in an accident??
Is there any unrepaired damage to the car?
Did you purchase the car new or used?
Has anyone serviced or made any sort of repairs to the vehicle recently??
While driving before the incident did the car hit any object in the road or go over any sort of bump or pot hole?

Just curious... how much did they settle for??

I'd sure hope you're getting nothing less than a brand new E63 sitting in your driveway courtesy of MB!

What "rest of damage". I have seen no mention of any damage other than the airbags going off.

You expect them to supply and replace aftermarket parts?? Do not believe that that will ever happen.

I'm assuming low profile tires..... vehicle hits pot hole......impact gets transmitted to closest impact sensor....SRS systems assumes impact......deploys air bags on the side of impact. If I'm correct the damaged wheels are on the side of deployed air bags. Vehicle did what it was designed for ( sense impact and save occupant).

I think I kind of agree more with this one. I have seen this happen quite a few times.

SLK350,
My Air Bags did the same thing...

Here is my thread...

https://mbworld.org/forums/slk-class-r171/265355-airbags-deployment.html

I got lucky and my insureance company is going to repair everything and then Sue the SH*T out of Mercedes

I tried to get them to do it but they said it was not a warrantee issue.

I hope things go good for you too.... please let us know

I sincerely feel that your insurance company will not waste their time taking on Mercedes. If they do, its likely they will not prevail and it will be a waste of your time also as you will have to be there. Its good that they honored the claim but most likely thats as far as it will go. From the tone of your post I think that perhaps you are acting on emotion and not reality as so far as the suit is concerned. Being vindictive is OK but it will only make you feel better for a short time and it will waste not only your time but the time of every one involved not to mention the taxpayer's cash and the court resources.

Bingo, we have a winner. Even my Volvo and Acura manuals mention this. If you hit a pot hole and the impact is bg enough the sensor will go into action. Sounds like the car did what it was designed to do.

I fully agree but this guy will never be convinced, he is quite litigous and feels he is in for a home run in court. Don't think that will happen.

Wow, how'd this thread get resurrected? It'd been dormant for nearly a year before MadSpeed somehow stumbled across it.

Wonder though how the OP made out taking on corporate M-B. He's still active on the forum, last activity 08-04-2009, but nothing more about his claim.

Not well I'd guess. Mercedes has a lot of leeway when deciding how to view aftermarket parts, performance tunings, etc. in the aftermath of an incident. And I suspect it was a very narrow view in this case since it could set a precedent.
