it dosent get any easier.

pull the plastic cover/fairing off from under the oil pan, access the drain plug, remove it,when it has stopped draining reinstall the items in reverse order.use the correct filter housing cap wrench, buy them anywhere cheap.unscrew the housing top, remove the filter and extension tube.slide the filter straight off,no twisting.replace all the "O" rings provided with the filter.add 8 qts of oil into the filter housing, install the filter and start the engine and check for leaks.check level and top off if needed in the normal manner using valve cover access.

You really should invest in an oil evacuator so you can vacuum oil out the dipstick as Mercedes intends.

In any event, on any German car whenever there's a washer on some sort of drain plug or bolt that seals liquid, the design intent is that that washer be replaced EVERY time it's removed.

im thinking i need to try that evac method just to keep it simple.i just changed the oil today and pulled the drain plug to do it.as long as the suction tube gets right down to the bottom of the pan there is no reason to pull that drain plug and give those aluminum threads in the oil pan a chance to degrade, and the copper washer which is designed to be torqued once.

so is it 8.0 or 8.5 quarts?

Also another question I have always added the oil through the cover access never through the filter. Is it instructed to add oil through filter? Thanks

I have always added 8 quarts, unless I do engine work where the oil pan is removed then I add an extra .2-.5.
I have actually used a $15 hand extraction pump on my E350 and was able to get all the oil out. PITA! Like milking a cow for 30 minutes
I don't add oil into the filter housing, takes too long for the oil to go in. Then again you could do two quarts at once using both.

Read your manual for the correct quantity and weight.
