W220 s500 oil question
i just got service A done at an indy shop i found online and they put in mobil1 5w30 synthetic.
Anyways as i was driving home, i thought the car was a bit louder and the engine sounded hollow? but i just thought it was normal since the indy mechanic told me not to worry and that, mobil1 5w30 was all they used in all mercedes and never had a problem but the next day my mom also mentioned that the car sounded different. so anyways i look into the forums to investigate and found a list of approved oils and then on the bottom of the list there was a list of oils that i should not use. and to my dissapointment mobil 1 5w30 was on the "not recommended" list.
to make a long story short, should i switch the oil out asap? would i be alright till my next service in this hot southern cali weather? i dont want to waste my time and money if its just horsepower that i will be missing but if it might cause permanent damage to the engine, i will switch it out asap.
the indy shop was very polite and i dont want to take it back and bother them if i dont have to.

5W-30 is too thin at operating temperature for your engine. I wouldn't even trust that they used the proper fleece filter. I'd have a competent MB shop redo the oil change if it were my car.

aww man, i was afraid to hear this. i cant believe it, how can a mercedes specialist do that to all there customers, did they not get the memo because they seemed pretty adamant about using 5w30 in all the cars that they service.
would it be ok if i asked for a refund? or should i just live and learn and let it go? i wouldnt be so stingy but sht they charged me more then what ive been paying at the dealership.
on a sidenote, how qualified are you guys in answering my question, because the indy shop in question comes with high regards on the internet and if everybody is happy with them maybe 5w30 is ok?

Print that out and ask them why you should be paying for oil that doesn't meet the manufacturer's specs. Be sure to point out the wording on page 3:
If the engine oil used does not meet the above mentioned standard, engine damage is possible, which is not covered by the Mercedes-Benz New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
But that's secondary. Get the oil change redone at a dealer or other qualified shop.
