2007 C280 Hands Free

I have a 2007 C280 that has the dial pad and the phone unit in the dash (the circle that has the hook/un hook call). I am trying to find out how I can have the hands free kit set up in the car without going to the dealer. What would it cost? Where to get the module, etc.... Any ideas?

If yours is the last of the W203 (old c class) then it should have "UHI" which is a preinstalled universal phone system. In the center console is a connector (probably has a cover on it) which you can plug in a range of phone cradles or a bluetooth adapter and then you have a working phone systems that you can access via the radio, steering wheel and instrument cluster.

If you're is the first of the W204 (new c class) then you will have bluetooth as standard. This is accesed via the radio/command unit directly. Refer to your owners manual for instructions. You will also have the "UHI" connecter in the center console which will allow the use of various phone cradles.

You can buy the cradles online but probably best to visit your dealer as they usually let you try them before purchase to ensure they work with your exact phone.

Actually if you have a 2007 W203 installing a phone kit is going to be a problem unless it was ordered with the phone prewiring option. It was no longer standard in 2007 and that means you do not have the wiring, or the top console where the bluetooth puck goes.

The above post is also incorrect for any W203 as far as it having "a preinstalled universal phone system". This is not standard. In most pre 2007 W203s you would have to buy the UHI module along with the contact plate and bluetooth puck or cradle. For 2007 you would have to buy all that plus wiring harnesses, center console, and antenna if you want to use the vehicles external antenna like the pre 2007s have.

Best handsfree

Here is a simple solution: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271395945115
It is only $300 and does phone, ipod, straming, handsfree and USB as the original OEM with good quality.

That unit will only work on a car that has the Command system installed (like the MCS BB 0520 or similar... pn A 029 820 31 89). It won't work in a car that has just the radio/CD/changer.

Actually they support all the head units ever built, here is a list with pictures:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...M4qR-94EiJFdZk
Those are more that ever MoBridge and Denson supported together.

If you look at the spreadsheet you posted it includes lots of EU models but does not include the most common non-nav HU used in US 2007 C280s:

I could be wrong... but in the last year of the W203 production (2007) MB had already engineered the W204 for 2008 and were reducing costs of the 2007s by eliminating expensive wiring harnesses when phone capability was not included... so the steering wheel controls are still there (because it would have cost more to spec a new sku for non-phone capable W203s) but the wiring harness is different than those that have the full harness in the US market. Like I said - I could be wrong... but there's likely a reason that the HU I display above is not on the spreadsheet you linked to.

Yes, isn't that the same AUDIO 20 CD NTG2 unit number 7? You need to use the 4.02 for EU or 4.01 setting for US to work with.

Looks identical or at least similar - but it's not the same.
#7 AUDIO 20 CD NTG2 was used in EU CLKs
- not in the US C-class.
You can't just assume that because 2 units looks the same that they (or more likely, the wiring harness they are connected to ) are the same.
