BOTH CAT CONVERTERS OUT AT 50k??????
Both of my catalytic converters in my 2001 S430 with 50k miles are done for. How the hell is that even possible? I called MB and they said there are not any recalls for them and that they are $1800 each!!! And since I live in California I cant put an aftermarket one on! I am sooooo freakin mad I dont know what to do with myself.

depending on your production date you should be covered under 8/80000 warranty ,you may get goodwill warranty ,depending on the dealer you go to,

There have been plenty of problems with the mfr of the cat converters. We had one break apart around 45k miles. I asked them to replace both L & R and they did.
Do as tcesario recommends, you have another warranty that should cover these parts far beyond the base warranty. Don' permit the dealer to snow you, frisco. Do your homework.

Should definitely be warranty. But I would look at which gasoline you are using. Might not be the gas,, but I have had contaminated fuel from the dealer that damaged my fuel gauge sending units.

Correct doesn't matter who was first owner or where purchased (must be US delivery when new). The EPA has clear specifications on emissions cars must pass and the cat. is part of it, and it must also have a specific life. Yours failed prematurely.
