Driver's side front lower pulley is the A/C compressor my guess is it that is the problem.
You might be able to drive it. As long as the pulley is spinning you should be fine for now, if it locks up the belt to be destroyed which will no longer spin the alternator and the battery will die.

The belt also drives the waterpump. You can live w/o the AC forever and the Alt for an hour or two, the WP you'll need right off the bat.
Time to find out whats wrong. It may be something very simple.

If you need to drive it for a long time without repairing it I would recomend getting a new belt to run everything except the A/C. Remove the belt and get a string to measure how long the new belt needs to be.
(I don't know if it will work or not, if it does, remember which way all the pulleys need to travel).

Worth the cost of the belt to keep yourself going

Just occured to me, check the crankshaft pulley/Harmonic balancer is still in one piece. Do a search for harmonic balncer, there should be some pics of it somewhere. That can cause quite a loud grinding noise quite suddenly. A/C is a little unusual for a sudden failure.
With the drivebelt off spin all the pulleys by hand (except crankshaft obviously). They should all spin without much effort. If the A/C is hard to turn or grinds then there is the problem
edit: just found that the A/C was the problem in another thread. still worth noting for sudden loud noises from the engine bay even though balancer failures are becoming rarer.
