What year car is this? Is it a smart key car? If it is the smartkey doesn't rely on battery power to communicate with Ignition switch. The battery in the car is in working condition right? Interior lights light up?

Are you trying to jump it with another battery or did you install a brand new battery?

Sounds like DAS isn't recognising your key. That can be caused by many things; low voltage being one of the most common.

Can you test the batt voltage with a multimeter?

Maybe else who understands more about DAS will chime in....sounds like the first part of the security handshake (retracting steering lock) required to initiate a start is being recognised.

Perhaps its a mechanical issue.....Try using two fingers to tighten the beauty ring around the ignition where the key is inserted.

Well, I have slightly different set up (electronic key 2000 C280) but I have the same problem, car will not start. I did already spend money on brand new Crank Position Sensor and car will still not start however, everything else is working fine, radio, lights, it does unlock the steering wheel. I am going to replace spark plugs (still don’t know how to do it) and where there are located. Also, I was told about some really went bed. Anyhow, If anybody have any suggestion please advise. thanx

Based on your tagging onto THIS post we will all assume that your key when inserted, unlocks the steering wheel, but won't turn to position 1 like the OP???

Or is your problem diferent?

After the key is inserted then I am able with no problem to turn it all the way to the position that should start the engine. Battery is fully charged, I can play radio, open or close the car with central lock. Everything is functional; this is where I have suspected Faulty Crank Position Sensor. After replacing the sensor problem has not been solved, engine will still not engage, car will not start. When I was replacing crank position sensor, I have observed interesting think, that the old sensor was covered with oil; is that normal? Or something else is happening here. Now, I would like to replace spark plugs, and perhaps some of relays that are responsible startup system in my car, can you please advice how to proceed? i don’t have the diagnostic scan tool available however, I don’t think it will help much since the car engine is not running, or maybe I am wrong. All this happen gradually, sometimes car would not start and then would engage with no problem. Two days ago, I came back home and since then I am dealing with the problem.

Try shifting to Neutral. If it starts then its the NSS; don't leave it in park w/o using the emergency brake cause it might not really be in park and could roll away.

Spark plugs are not going to cause a no crank issue so forget about them.

I would be surprised if anyone other than an MB dealer could code the key.
