98 C230 Replaced Belt Tensioner Now Shaking
My 98 C230 have original belt tensioner which is making noise now.
I got the replacement part (original part is not available anymore. got the newer replacement). After replacing the tensioner, its shaking very agressively especially when I'm in drive. Initially i thought tensioner is defective, and I ordered another tensioner but its causing the same issue.
I'm suspecting that old pulley doesn't like the newer tensioner. Can someone confirm this?? Have anyone else experienced this??
thanks

If I install the original belt tensioner back, tensioner and pulley works just fine. but as soon as i replace the old tensioner to new one, the tensioner shakes excessively including pulley. Note that original part number is 11120001270 and new part that replaces has part number 1112000770. I checked many websites.. they'll have new part number selling. Dealer said the same thing that old part has been replaced by this new one. Installation was perfect... all bolts fit perfectly fine and pulley also fit in nicely.
idle position without a/c is not that bad but with AC or drive position, its pretty bad.

The newer style tensioner requires the installation of a seperate damper (shock). If you buy from a dealer then it will list the additional parts required. You will need a damper and 2 bolts. No modifications are required to the engine to install it.
The old style tensioner had an internal damper, the new one has an external damper.
