How Many Quarts of AT fluid for a 1999 C280?
1) Does anyone know how many quarts of AT fluid I will need in order to change for my 1999 C280? The d(st)ealers suggested 8 quarts and so that is what I bought, but she didn't seem that convinced herself.
I will be doing a complete drain, including AT filter. I have access to a friend's shop w/ hydrolic lift so it'll be much easier than if I were to do it at home.
2) Also, I heard there's two drain plugs. Can any tech savy person tell me what those are?
3) There is no AT dip stick but I heard from the dealer that their tech has a special one which you can purchase. Any idea where I can get one?
Thanks in Advance,

It will take about 7 litres.
And yes you will need to purchase the dip stick (dealer item) to properly do the job.
If you draind the pan only it`s about 3.5 litres.
The second drain plug is on the torque converter.
When filling it back if torque converterwas drain add 3 liters, start the car & finish filing up with car running.
When your up to 6 liters stat checking the level. (to hard to remove if over field)
Where do you insert the dipstick to check the AT fluid level?FYI, I asked the dealer this morning and there's a special tube w/ a red dot under the hood where I can use the special dealer dipstick in to measure the AT fluid level.

140-589-15-21-00 It's about $18.00 to $25.00
Be sure you're putting the special trans fluid from the dealership since you have the 722.6 trans.
I also got 8 liter of MB Transmission Oil at $13.50 per litre (dealer part #: 001-989-21-03-10)
I'll snap a pic tonight and post it up to see if I got the right red/black tube for measuring the AT Fluid level.

However, I couldn't find the drain plug to the torque converter. So I left that alone.
But pyschologically it's killing me knowing I didn't do a complete job. Does anyone know or have a picture of the drain plug at the torque converter? My mechanic friend gave up looking for it saying the whole trans might have to be taken out to do it to get to it. That doesn't sound logical to me. I guess it'll be 15K more miles before I try and figure out this again.FYI, if only draining from the pan & changing AT filter, it DOES only take 3.5 litre for a 1999 C280 Sport.

To get to the drain you have to be looking at the converter & turning the crank at the same time ( turn clockwise) until you see the drain come around.
If you do this, when filing it back up put 3 liters, start the car & then add the rest.
