I added the ? marks because I have never heard of a cam shaft adjuster. Who gave you this information? You might want to get a 2nd opinion.

I doubt very much that they are referring to the engine camshaft. If the comment is in reference to your supercharged C class they may be referring to some sort of inlet in the supercharger. Sorry I can't help more. Good luck on the repair.

Well that's definitely the engine cam shaft. Perhaps they are referring to the timing chain tensioner. In North America we have different terminology from England, but being from the colonies I think I understand a little.

See part #32, that's the adjuster.

nickid, does yours sound like this video:

The guy just got his car back - they tell him it's indeed the adjuster. A quick, $1800 job

Did they tell you that it's absolutely necessary to replace it?
I remember reading somewhere on this forum that it's not gonna cause any problems, but that is somewhat doubtful...

If you disconnect the electric plug to the adjuster Soliniod it doesn't make the noise

The mechanic said they unplugged the cam position sensor (on top of valve cover) and the buzzing stopped.

I have been trying to convince my friend to unplug the supercharger "wastegate" actuator on passenger's side to test if it has to do with the SC, but he won't to listen because "the buzzing is coming from under the valve cover".

What is weird to me, is that it buzzes approximately at the RPM threshold when the SC is supposed to be "kicking in"...
