2007 C230 SPORT XENON HEADLIGHT PROBLEM

I UNDERSTAND THE HEADLIGHTS ADJUST AUTOMATICALLY TO THE ROAD AND OR SUSPENSION WITH SENSORS THAT ARE ON THE FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION. MY LIGHTS POINT DOWN LOW AND DO NOT GIVE VISIBILITY BEYOND ABOUT 30 FEET. THEY ARE NOT ADJUSTING AUTOMATICALLY AND ALWAYS POINT DOWN. ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ABOUT HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THIS ISSUE AND WEATHER IT IS THE SUSPENSION SENSORS OR SOMETHING ELSE? ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Does any one have any troubleshooting procedures for figuring out where the problem is, weather it is the sensors or the headlight mechanism?

You'd have to hook the vehicle up to a star tester and quick test it. If there was a problem with the system, there'd be a fault code stored for it. The steering angle sensor is also an input for this system (headlights move from left to right when turning.) Having said this, xenon lights still need to be aimed. There are adjusting screws on the light itself which adjust the height of the light. In order for you to aim the light properly, need a headlight adjusting tools (green machine on wheels with mirrors in it which I don't know the name for) which will give you the proper height.

Is the steering input sensor on the suspension? Do the lights turn left and right
as well as up and down or is it just turning left and right?

I'm not sure about your C230 but I highly doubt that your xenon lights are active. The steering angle sensor is an input in the active headlight system. If I were you, I'd aim my headlights properly (adjust them higher via the screw on the headlight assembly) and be done with it. Call your closest dealer and ask them to look up your vehicle's data card to see if your vehicle came equipped with active headlights. Just because your headlights are factory xenon headlights doesn't mean they are active (able to move.) My dad's 03 E500 has xenon headlights which are also not active...

I asked around and don't think 203s (your body style) ever came with active headlights...

I also missed your question about the steering angle sensor. It is located behind the steering wheel, attached to the steering column.

Come to think of it, my sisters 03 C240 4matic also has Xenon headlights which do not move. Just aim them higher and be done with it
