C200k intermittently sluggish - help with understanding the fault codes

Hi, newbie looking for advice. Have had a b service today, and codes read and cleared due to this intermittent sluggishness where car just doesn't respond as it should to throttle, no management light, no stutter, just sluggish. 10 yr old fuel filter changed but I don't think that's the culprit. have run 2 bottles of redex through in last few mths. Have looked at similar posts but this isn't identical...

P2039 m16/7 (recirculating air flap actuator) unknown fault type 8
P2036 secondary air injection: malfunction (function chain) air flow is too low [p0410]

Can anyone suggest a process of elimination I can follow to resolve?

Thanks in advance...

Can anyone help?

I've trawled and trawled and found similar but not identical probs,

Not being too technical, i havent found anything i can use to start to home in on the problem... My main questions I guess are,

Why is my management light not being triggered?

When I bought the car 4 yr ago within a wk CEL came on and I had the oily loom issue fixed, new offending leaking sensor and new wiring, luckily no ecu damage.

It looks like I may have some blocked airways? From what I've read on this forum, can anyone help me identify these to my local mechanic, is that the most likely cause?

Also the sensor down the back of the engine is mentioned, is this first port of call, if so could you give me a name and part no

We do very little mileage 13k in last 3 yrs according to MOT, which could be a cause of blockages?

I'm really to get this fixed, love the car and its lots of life left in it,

Any help would be massively appreciated

P2039 Recirculating air flap actuator : Adaptation Emergency running

P2036 Secondary air injection: malfunction (function chain) : Air flow is too low.

My best guess is a failed secondary air flap

Thanks for that, is it an easy change/ pricey part?

Guess I wait for next sluggish episode, then get the part swapped, codes cleared and wait and see if it reoccurs?

Does the intermittent nature of the issue fit with your diagnosis?

Thanks again.

Last I checked, it is a MB dealer part.

The unit is failing, not dead "yet".
It may be intermittent for another year, or fail today.

It fits my diagnosis very well, though I can't verify without the vehicle here.

Warning, HUMOR:
I can not think of a way for you to drive from your home to my location (Detroit, Michigan, USA).

Answer

This is a dynamic unit, with several possible failure modes, some are slow to set a fault code, others are quick to set a fault code.
If you are lucky, the codes will not come back until fall / winter.
