need a little help. sam module question.
Hi, does anyone on here know if i remove my rear sam module and reinstall it if i have to reprogram it at a mercedes dealership? i took it out because it looked like it had a lot of corrosion on it and cleaned it off. didnt so much as to scratch anything inside of it and didnt use any chemicals. when i reinstalled it, the digital gas gauge will not work, the turn signals dont work, and the rear windows dont go up or down but the front ones work fine.. its a little weird but any help would be appreciated.

Shouldn't need reprogramming but sounds as if something happened to it.
Did you open it at all? Or just clean off the exterior?
Any pins bent in the connecting harness?

i opened it because i wanted to see if i could see any water stains on it and there was some oxidation so i cleaned it with a paper towel. dry. and put it all back together the way it was. i called the dealer and he said i might need to reprogram because the memory chip might have erased with no power but i dont believe that, i figure its like shutting down a pc, if you save something to your hard drive and turn it off the memory is still in there.

Here is science data on the topic.

If it is the whisker issue:
When the circuit board is disturbed (attempted cleaning), then powered up, the unit is usually toasted.

The memory inside the SAM is not disturbed by removing power. I would have the unit diagnosed before considering replacement but my guess is that you probably electrostatically toasted something inside it.

i can see what you mean by static. but as for the circuit board Whisker issue, it didnt have anything like that. it looked brand new besides the stain i wiped off. i guess best bet is to bring to mercedes have them try to code it, if not i have to buy a new one then code that too. either way sounds expensive.
