Stealership says I need new rear brakes and rotors.

I took my car in for an oil change and system check. Dealership stated that I need a new rear brakes and rotors. I drive a S 63. And and I looked at the pads and rotors they seemed fine a little low but not on the verge of replacement . Can someone please take a look at these pictures and let me know this is my first AMG . Thank you all in advance for the help .

Rear outer pad. Drivers side.

Rear outer pad. Drivers side.

Rotor lip rear. And rotor face.

The pads look like 50 percent. Now with the lip on the rotor, they're probably at minimum thickness. I tell my customers, use up the pads & replace pads and rotors then.

You don't measure mechanical wear out by the looks.
Get on slide caliper and give us numbers.
Pads are good down to 2 mm even less, rotors have min thickness stamped on them (usually on the smaller hub outer side).
Lips say nothing about rotor wear out. I had huge lips on my rotors, yet measurement show I still have 60% of rotors left.
Grind the lips off and good for another 100,000 miles.
OH if highly paid technician gave you quote on new brakes without showing the measurements, he has no qualifications to touch Mercedes.

So is it possible to just replace pads and keep rotors until worn beyond use?

Yes, that's what someone probably has done. As long as rotors are thick enough, you can put pads on. I don't grind the lip off, it helps keep the rotor from warping. I chamfer the edges of the pads to help break in.

No problem, I hate to see people waste money when they don't have to. And it has nothing to do with dealerships. It's a common practice at a lot of repair places. The estimates I've seen over the years for Un- needed work is staggering!

The brake wear sensors often go off early... On my R350 rear then gave a warning with almost 1/4 pad left.. Just cut the sensor wire and solder/twist together to simulate a good sensor. 6 months later I finally did change the pads and the disks at the same time.. will be good for many more years.
